35" Tyres in QLD Q: Boys is blue
Hey all
I am going to fit 35" tyres to the stumpy no matter what, and am well aware of all the good old QLD regs and standard police routine when i get pulled up.
My Q is has any even been challenged on having 35's by the boys in blue and if so what was the result?
Also is 8" the most accepted rim width or the benifits mof 10" better?
Thanks for your replies. Just want to be ready for worst case scenario. Car isn't my daily driver much now anyway so won't be out and about all the time and I can fall back on another vehicle if trouble did arise, although the tyres are probably the last of their worries!

i run 35's on my 75 and have never bin hasled it's more so how much the car stands out and if u go looking for truoble by cruising through cbd's or were the car tuners gather.

Thanks mate. i've been pretty luck and alot of them have more q's and respect than bad intent. The roof's off mine all the time, and with 2 " body 4 " suspension lift (variable) 18" airbags all fibreglass body for the obvious techniacally questionable stuff the tyres aren't a real worry. But would like to know for piece of mind.

It's not just the hassle of the tyres.
It will just be a matter of time before you are pulled over for them.

Clean car, not speeding, using indicators.
But the guys that pull you over seem to have a bee in their bonnet over slightly modded 4wd's.
All respect to the boys in blue.. but some just seem to hate 4wd.

i have driven around on 35's on a hilux for 5 yrs, been pulled over for the occasional rbt, and once by a cop who owned a hilux and wanted to know wat the best way to raise a hilux was!!! never been hasseled. My mate was defected the other day for running 33's on 2" lift with flairs and everything, still got defect, had to go 31's before they let him pass. Funny thing was he has shock hoops and big extended shackles but let him go on them. So long story short, if it looks big, with the right cop, they WILL defect you, no matter wat. Run the gauntlett and yoy will possibly make it passed, but make sure you have a pair of 31's just in case they feel like being an ass! Other than that, go for it

I have been running my 35"s for ages on road and have only had problems once...but that was at a shopping centre carpark where they had a makeshift inspection station setup (police and DoT). I drove away with about 8 minor defects and the fact that I had 35" tyres WAS NOT one of them.
My truck is on the road all time, I just dont do anything stupid that will draw attention to me and hope for the best!

I got pulled up at RBT by one of those bike coppers (after I blew nothing) who went over everything really couldn't find anything and then said "You can expect to recieve a letter in the next 28 days to present your vehicle for a machinery at QLD Transport."
Letter never came
I think he was overwhelmed by the number of mod plates, codes and supporting paperwork.

i know a few guys that run 38s and a 6in lift under there 80s and they dont get hassled buy the cops at all. most of the time they wont blink an eye unless your doin somthing silly. im thinking of going 38s on my patrol very soon i think they look like there the rite size for a car with 6in lift chopped gaurds ect. i run the risk i think its worth it. i could get my car back to stock in a matter of hours for road worth check

Some dont have reflectors in them. And what about insurance? Who will cover you legally if you get into a smash? esp a bad one, it does happen..
Insurers say its your responsibility to meet Gov regs. That means to run susp and large tyres eng cert required if you can get one.
Just a question? Where in QLD do you need large tyres? other than a comp track?

I need them for the beach im sick of dragging the diff, U-Bolts and shocky mounts un the sand, its a real bugger when its soft! Where do you get engineer certs from? and how much?

Ive been driving around on 35s for a wile now and havnt had any issues. I think the main thing is dont attract attention and you should be fine......My car doesnt hide either its a Toyota Bundera with 3" sus and 2" body with a Lexus v8 so it isnt too quiet either

The problem comes when you try to sell it. And when you get pulled and have to prove that you are allowed to run with the mods...

Nope, the problem will come when he tries to register it at his address in brisneyland and will have to provide a road worthy certificate to QLD transport. They arent gonna give two f**ks whether or not it was roadworthy when you lived in anther state, your in our state noooowwww b*tch and if you wanna register it here its gonna have to be roadworthy by QLD rules to get the initial rego. However, after its rego'd well........

Why not run 2 sets if your doing alot of city driving? If your going to have 35's chances are you've got an aggressive tread pattern thats noisy, faster wearing and has more rolling resistance (hence more fuel) so if you fork out on a cheap set of smaller road tyres you'll probly atleast break even, and you decrease your risk of getting in trouble
