ETC stands for Electronic Transmition Control. You use it for towing or hills. When pressed the tranny holds it gears for longer and the torque converter locks which feels like extra gears especially between 3rd and overdrive. I use it quite a bit on the freeway especially when towing my boat. You probably wont notice it that much if your just driving around the burbs with an empty Surf. Its just a pain that its just out of arms reach. You cant move it closer because the switch is deeper than the console spare spots that are closer.
