Another Alternater Question but for a TD42
Another Alternater Question but for a TD42
I have read the recent forums regarding alternators but it appears they were only for petrols. Does anyone have ideas regarding beefing up the 60amp TD42 GQ alternators. The 60 just doesn't cut it with allmy accessories.
Thanx

I have heard of some people fitting a Second Alternator.
They run a small one for the Vaccuum lines, and a larger one for the charging.
there is somediscussion about this here

Playin,
I had my alternater rewired. It now has been rewired with something called two in the hand and it also has a smaller machened pully wheel to keep it spinning faster at idle. it works great and cost around $270 is now rated around +110amps there abouts. I also have a second unit that im fitting for 24volt.
I didnt think you could run two 12 volt alternaters in line??

TD42 Alternator
Yeah I grabbed a spare petrol one I had and tried to find a place to pu it but there's no room especially when I will be turboing in the future. Who did you get to do the work. Were they in Brisbane. I wouldn't mind contacting them.
You mentioned the smaller pulley. This makes sense as my alternator did practically nothing at idle. Does the higher revolutions of the smaller pulley decrease life drastically as it will obviously rev pretty had when the engine is at the higher rev range.
Cheers

Na sorry mate they were in perth. If you ring a good auto sparky shop they should be able to do the work for you, just tell them you want it re-wired and more amps out of it.
The smaller pully is manly to keep the thing spinning slightly quicker at idle otherwise the charge light can come on, not to sure why- someone on board may be able to explane this.

does the hitachi unit have the bushes on the back? I know the bosch unit does making servicing in the bush easier. Just a thought.
