I have a sierra which i am considering taking to Robe.
Questions: 1. Do Simexs work for you or against you in sand?

2. Will my 1300 be screaming all day as I have Series 3 hoppers and 3.9 ratios?
3. Should I go to a 32 or 33 to correct the low range gearing?

Bill I would change to a 32" and preferably not a Simex. What size tyre are you using at the moment?


I much preferred running anything but the Swampers in sand.

From what i have seen and depends on what the sands like is that u need more power for the major aggressive tyres to turn them and keep them from digging in.

As a mate said with the simex on his ute (400ci chev in a 75 series) if u start bogging, stop there or u are on the way to china.

Found general muddies rock for the beach.

Im running 31 simexs which measure up 2 a 32 i think.

Size wise you will probably be alright just that Simexes on a Zuk in soft sand will be interesting. I'd go with either a muddy or an AT tyre in the 32" size

the couple of times of been to robe , have used allterrain tread tyres !!
with the zook , you already have the weight advantage(lack of) !!

with the series 3,s & ratio you have , you could quite easily get around on 33,s !!

plus , the drive over there isnt to bad in a zook !!!
try somerset !!! thats a long drive !!(cape york beach drive!!) :shock:
