IFS Luxes ... ?

Post by RoldIT »

What Lux models have IFS. From what I can find, they started in the 3.0l diesels, about 98 or so but what were they in before that.
I remember reading somewhere the earlier SR5's had IFS also. Is this true? Are all the solids spring over?

Thanks. I found some info at http://www.4wdonline.com/Toyota/Hilux/Hilux.html but I'm still not sure if or when the SR5's were IFS. Anyone know?

I'm looking into maybe getting a Lux but I want to know how late a model I can look at and still get a solid front end ...

only the SR5 which came in DC and EC had IFS not sure which year it came in though.

you can look upto 97 models as the all non SR5's were solid axle and came in both DC and SC. (not EC i think).

the non SR5 hilux's are basic but i reckon thats good for 4wders anyway, my dad had 95 DC 2.8D which was solid axle it had vinyl seats but my 90 SC 2.8D doesnt :D

also all models after 1990 had power steering (89 were same shape but p/s was an option)

good luck, there gutless but once your in lowrange it dosnt matter anyway.

yeh u can and if u unlock the hubs u also minimise wear on the cv's as they aint rotating continously....this is the setup on mine and works fine..actually handy to grab switch from 4 to 2 wheel drive with a front lock rite locker and know its disconnected by the vacuum...
