235/ 75 Tyres with 5.5 inch rims

Post by StephenF »

Hello,

I have just bought a 97 sierra and have taken it off road a couple of times and I have been amazed where I can get it - even as a stocker.

I have a set of 235/75 BFG tyres under that I am wanting to fit to the Sierra. I note that BFG recommends 6 - 7 inch rim width for this size tyre. As the stock zook rims are 5.5 inches can any advise of their experience with the 235/75 and 5.5 inch rim combination.

Thanks

I've been running 235s on my stock Vit rims (5.5") for about 12 months now, with no dramas, apart from the funny looks the Beaurepaires dude give me when I took'em in for a balance. It does feel a little umm ... vague ... in the steering department through fast corners on road, but nothing really scary.

Will say that I will be replacing the rims with at least 6" wide asap now though.

You can get a set of 15x7 Sunnies for around $50 each if you don't like the way it handles on the 5.5's

yeah I know, had some, but they hung out too far. Tried to buy some but they keep sending me the wrong offset. Don't wanna be stuffin around with wheelarch flares and stuff;- if I have to do that I'll go the next step and fit 31s.

I ran 235/75 kumhos on the stock Zuk rims for the life of the rubber ... no issues whatso ever...

How many pleple run 33x12.5's on 8 inch rims without hesitation .. they should be on an 8.5 minimum rim ..

ok, so 235/75/15's are fine on 5.5" rims but what is the widest they could fit on, would they fit on an 8" rim?
has anyone tried? I'v got some F100 8"s and iv got some 235/75's and was thinking about mixing the 2 for a short time till i get myself some decent rubber.

Cheers, Stubbs
