new cv's

I need a new cv after lastnights expedition and i read somewhere before about a brand of cv that was a bit dodgy(cant remember if it was on here, ive done a search and cant find anything, or it was on another board) break more often than others? Does anyone remember reading this? it was definetly sierra cv's.
Anyway i got to replace mine, im gonna do both sides and luckily it was done lastnight as i started to pull the centres out for lockers today
How much do they go for new? i dont want the rebuilt ones.

I got quoted $170 each new aftermarket CVs (not sure what brand).
I havnt done any shopping around to see if they can be had cheaper yet.

G'day Chops, I have paid between $120 and $50 for second hand ones from wreckers. I also bought, and destroyed a Birfield CV shortly into its first outing, although it had been used briefly in another WT, I have gone back to standard and have been trouble free for a while.
I always carry a spare long and short with my recovery gear.

can you get chromemolly cv's for zooks?
if so that would be the way to go i know they wouldnt be cheap
but they would last longer

Bazooked runs newfields chomo CVs I think.

Are getting rebuilt cv's a no no?
I would think so, but does anyone else run the rebuilt ones or just go new?

dont forget u have to up size the side gears in ur diff to take the larger 26 spline axles, i have been runnin 33 jt2s and they have held up to alot of abuse, if ya do buy a set get them to halve the price on the receipt so u dont pay any duty or tax, freight from memory was pretty cheap and had them 2 my door in 5 days.

I built up a sierra with double tough CV's from Trail Tough about 18 months ago. Nicely made, and except for having to remove the knuckle to fit them, all went together well. They have done a few hard trips on a sierra with a series 4 RH, front airlocker and beadlocked Q78's, and have given no trouble.

As pointed out, the added cost is for a rear centre for the front is an issue, and the lack of spares if you do manage to break one could be a problem.

Personally, I think they are the best value for money option for the front of sierras.

They are much nicer looking on the flesh than in the photos.

Well, i found someone that can get me the new cv's. its just near where my stepdad works which is handy. he took the axles in last tuesday and was quoted $175 a side, which doesnt sound bad.
Then friday they arrive in the shop, but they had been sent one sierra and one vitara, luckily its not urgent
Then today my stepdad calls me and says, the guy has had to go and pick it up from out of town as it had been sent out of the shop by someone
But then he tells my stepdad that, we are getting a good price coz they are usually around $400 a side WTF! oh and then he was going on about how there is only one place to get them and it was queensland.
Sounds like its all too hard for them.

I take this option too, worked well so far. I'm not too rough on them really, tend to crawl rather than throttle so they dont break "that" often.
