Who in VIC can lengthen a Chassis? Cheezy?

Post by CRUSHU »

I am looking into getting a Bedford cab chassis, and using it as a car carrier for my F Truck. I need to lengthen the chassis a little, so I can lenghten the tray. Who can do it, and have it approved? thanks

We did it oueselves on my dads old ACCO.....we went to the truck wrecker and bought a couple lengths chassis from another truck. Then we bolted it over the original chassis to the length we wanted.......

Bolted is the important word as welding was out of the question......Truck was then RWC and Rego'd without question.....

The other truck chassis was bigger and fitted over the Acco chassis?

Cant you weld it if the weld is behind the rearmost suspension mount?

No, I need to lengthen the wheelbase, so I can add more to the rear overhang.

get a boilermaker to weld it, one with a workcover ticket then it will have to be x ray'd then your engineer should approve it

be sure whoever welds it knows its going to be x ray'd they will most likely warrent their work that if it doesn't pass they wont charge you

try going to a truck repair place they should be able to point you in the right direction

Yes, other chassis fitted over the top of the orginal chassis. Overlap was about 800mm and we used about 8 bolts to hold each side........No issue.....welding can weaken the chassis and cause failure......bolting won't...it was also cheaper by a long shot....

Some truck chassis are heat treated after manufacture and cannot be welded.
