Hello just after some information regarding dropping a 351c into a GQ, i'll be using a kit from Dellow that includes a bellhousing for the nissan 5 speed, engine mounts and spigot bearing for the cleveland.
questions:
- what did you do for headers? can you buy block hugger extractors or is it easier to just use the standard cast iron log headers.
- what did you do for the clutch? do you use the standard nissan clutch plate and cleveland flywheel plus cleveland pressure plate?
- what did you do for the fiddly bits like accelerator cable?
- any other advice or info would be appreciated

I put a 351 Clevo in an MQ I had about eight years ago. Also used the Dellows kit. Back then it was about $650 for the whole conversion kit. That included engine mounts, bellhousing, new clutch (11'' I think) and a few other bits. The engine mounts they supplied then were absolute rubbish, I tore about ten of them, in the end we had to chain down the left hand side of the motor from preventing the motor from torquing up so much. I used the standard cast headers (cost to make custom extractors was pretty exy.) I would grab that set if you can. Throttle cable on mine was an aftermarket cable and I also broke that about three times also, right on the link on the carby.
You need the old 3 finger clutch to use with the clutch they supply and the flywheel from your motor. Make sure your gearbox main shaft is not too long, you may need to cut it down. Exhaust system from right hand side goes under gear box to the left. I put a windsor in and had to manipulate the firewall backwards to fit using a special tool called a "hammer"
Most important part is the gearbox shaft length.

Bronco block, sonic tested to have plenty of meat in the bore walls, (tried 5 until he came across this one), bottom filled with some grout to help rigity, welsh plugs holes were tapped and plugged once again to aid in rigity.

-Double row timing chain
-Cam to suit forced induction
-Romac balancer
-Ferrea 6000 valves

what part of the motor hit the firewall? any photos of your conversion Cris? I have a 351w for mine from a f350 and any extra info is greatly appreciated in this conversion

i have fitted one to a gq tite fit between chassis rails had to heat sheild the brake and fuel lines and used standard manifolds the main problem is the size of the oil pump i spent days modifying the sump to clear the front diff and also hadd to add caster plates to stop the diff smashing the starter motor xe falcon v8 acc cable fits staight in and used diesel radiator
bellhousing is good but would sugest making your own engine mounts as the ones they supply are very poor once sorted the thing is very relyable and will pull a house over these engines are very torquey down low which is ideal in 4x4 hope this helps.

I'd ditch the windsor in favour of the clevo. The extra deck height of the windsor will make the exhaust system very tight- I'm sure it will fit but the clevo would make life easier.chops wrote: I have a 351w for mine from a f350 and any extra info is greatly appreciated in this conversion
My GQ has a clevo, it was freshly rebuilt b4 I bought it, but it was also freshly overheated- several times I'd say- by the previous owner, so I now know the insides of it intimately. Be very conscious of the cooling side of things- I will be running 2 thermo fans on mine when finished.
Figure on $3000 for a fresh motor build, this covers quality new pistons/ rings, oil pump, gaskets, machining and the goodies you will want- stainless valves/ springs, Comp cam, good roller rockers and Edelbrock RPM air gap manifold.
The extra .3" deck height of the windsor is way more than offset by the shape of the cylinder head, there is heaps more room for the Windsor exhaust. (I have a 66 Mustang and it just squeezes in a 351W, a clevo would never fit).slosh wrote:

hey mate, how r ya,, the cleveland is a really tight fit on the firewall, i had 2 belt back the firewall 2 clear da heads, i used a kit from dellow automotive in sydney 0297744419, it comes with belhousing,engine mounts that i keep breaking ,& a nissan clutch plate, & spickit bush, it cost me $1045 to get it down to melbourne.. u need 2 use a ford 11'' presure plate & flywheel & depends on the year of your gq u may need 2 grind some of the gearbox shaft, the nissan slave cylinder diddnt push out enough to select gears, so i used a big resivior of a tanem trailer with a ford xe top loader v8 slave cylinder, i just used standard v8 manifolds but is very tight on the firewall. with the cable i got it made up longer & 2 suit the holley carbie. for the cooling system i used EL falcon twin thermos with a 3 core radiator which keeps it cool enough, the other problem is the sump pickup nearly sits on da diff so you need 2 either reverse da pick up 2 da back or buy a bronco 4wd v8 sump & pick up, i tried to get away with da standard but i sqashed da pick up 4wding & seized da first engine,so do it straight away coz it was very costly,,, the conversion was a pain in da ass to do but they do go really well, dellow make it sound very easy but there full of shit haha,,, anyway i hope its some kind of help 2 ya & if u have more questions just send a msg or my MSN is jess351@hotmail.com,, wish u luck , dont worry its well worth it,, jess
