procomp 4" lift kit for ifs hilux
Hi all
I have a work colleague who has a pre 04 IFS hilux 3L NA diesel.
He is looking at a 4 inch lift from snake racing on sale at the moment for 2700 from a normal price of 3500 or summat like that.
a few questions, has anyone got any experience with this kit. i'm not real familiar with ifs hilux's. It's made by procomp and looks the goods, just wondering about my ability to fit it.
the rear is lifted with spacer blocks, any idea if he is likely to suffer axle wrap with the 3L diesel fitted with a turbo later on.
He is also looking to fit 33's, will these still rub on full articulation/scrub radius.

35's will fit without a bodylift but may need some minor loving with a hammer to the innerguard at the back of the front tyre to stop scrubbing at full lock, 35's fit no dramas at all if you have a body lift as well but then the car is very tall and top heavy (I wish I didn't have the bodylift, but now everything is made to suit it and i cant go back)
I've just put 37's on my surf with a 4" procomp lift and 2" bodylift, but i've modified the kit slightly to bring the front wheels 2" forward for more clearence, and a slightly longer wheelbase. The newer kits are very strong, I have the older kit which is great but has required a several repairs and strengthening mods. I've thought of getting a new kit to replace mine as the new kits are a massive improvment.

Usually to get 2" front lift (std setup) you are not left with a lot of down travel. With this set up you have to ability to slightly increase the up and down travel, run larger tyres for clearance and still be great to drive on road which is where 90% of IFS rigs spend their time anyway.
Put a locker in the front and any lack of travel is delt with
If you can afford the setup, you can get a great compromise between daily driver and weekend warrior.
BTW I have no connection in any way to this product (or others like it), just my perception.

Unfortunately these kits don't increase front flex much. Yes you can adjust the bumpstops a little but the CV joints only allow so much range of motion before they bind. I think from memory the stock Toyota CVs allow 22 degrees before binding. I'm not too sure how these American kits that include the rear springs will work with double cab Hiluxs seeing as the springs are designed for single cab American pickups.
Does anyone have experience with the Skyjacker kit that includes the softride springs? I'm interested in installing one of these kits on my double cab 2003 Hilux. Also does anyone have any experience with the Skyjacker Platinum shocks?

I fitted the pro comp kit to my 98,the kit cost me 1500 in 98.. got it through a guy in sydney that specialised in suzukis.[cant remember the name].
the swaybar limits articulation and id recommend dis-connects to fix that. the 98 chassis was slightly wider than those before it and i needed to slot the holes in rear drop bracket for the front diff.
the u.s. models went to struts while we still got torsion bars.
so you may find your kit is the same with the hole issue.
like you guys said,the exhaust needs cutting because the front shaft goes straight through it once the diff is dropped.
33" 12.5 bfg muddies cleared with no body lift.
just had to trim flares near drip rail.
travel doesnt increase,the new spacers are just longer near the top ball in the top swingarm.
have a close look at the green lux pics.
hope that helps.
dont forget rear brake line and prop valve lengths.

With lokkas there is a lot less big wheelspin stopping suddenly as it hits the ground so reduces the chance of breakages. without lokkas I doubt the front diff would last 5mins with the new tyres.
I only have a 2.8 Turbo intercooled so there isn't a huge amount of grunt turning them either so can only abuse the CV's so much. V8 coming soon I hope if the tax man is nice to me.
As for flex, there is definatly more flex from the kits, in theory there is none but when you ramp it, there is definitly more flex, and with a few tweaks you can get more too. IFS flex is decieving as the tyres stay vertical instead of tucking into the guards. IFS is not the hinderance in the serious stuff that everyone percieves it.

Do you mean to say that the Snake Racing 4" Suspension Lift and the ProComp Stage II 4" Suspension Lift are one and the same?
I was evaluating which one would be the better choice as I'm planning a lift myself and running 33" x 12.5s.
Worse comes to worst, I'll probably just go full OME and just live with the 2" lift that provides.

Why not just lift cab 3in and they shouldn't hit it was in a topic a while ago start looking back through the pages and it'lll be there, seen one at superior today had 2in cab and looked to have 2in suspension lift with 33's and couldn't see any signs of hitting.

the diff drop, does in move the diff down a 4inches or is it only 2 and the torsion bars wound up 2.
what else needs to be done eg. tail shafts, exhaust ect.
can u give me all the info on it even the un-nessessary things

Instead of putting the money towards a v8 wouldn't u rather sas it? Maybe it's just me but if your runnnig 37's already and still IFS the money would be better spent on proper flex?
