BUNDERA ENGINE TRANSPLANT HELP.

bundyboy wrote:advantages / disadvantages to high steer??
pro:
removes the tierod from under the diff where it is prone to get stuck on rocks.
potentially stronger steering arms.
lets you fit a low pinion front diff, can still fit the high pinion if you want.
con:
$$$ on high steer arms and probably custom draglink and tierod
possibly a bit crowded in front of the axle with the steering damper, tierod and draglink - 75 series style.
potentially screws with your ackerman angles if the highsteers aren't properly constructed (likely)
requires engineer's certification.
there will be more for either argument. it's not something I'd do to a bundy unless it was becoming a rock monster.
biggest question, how much are you prepared to poor into this thing?
1UZ-FE
Or you could rebuild your 22R, go EFI, put a cam in it, then some crawler gears, probably looking at the same sort of money
i got my 22RE motor complete for a carton of beer

timing is bad at the moment coz i have to go back to muswellbrook for work this weekend and wont be back till march.... Thanks Tony.
Ultimately, on the diff topic... i would like to get a 4.88 LSD for the rear, toreplace my 4.3 LSD i have now, and a high pinion 4.88 for the front.
how much are we talking???

I have a 4.88 Hilux Diff centre sitting in my Garage if you want to borrow it to see if it makes a difference.

would go pretty quick
Gday is the 3uz a 4.3 vvti lexus motor?
BTW, if u r going to do a transplant, drag it into this century with VVTI, turbo and injection...go the 2jzt out of a supra or a prado 1kzfte for economy. Probably spend thesame $$ on both.
Then there is the 7mge, dunnydore v6 or 1uzfe for cheaper, and for bargain basement, get a 2.4 efi and rebuild it b4 slotting it in.
Andrew
i have said it b4 and i will say it again 1GGZE, supercharged motor that bolts straight upto your G52 box, and even bolts onto your 22R engine mounts........... Heaps of power but not enough to brake the hilux running gear, no need to change diffs, u can do that when u get lockers!!!!
Bunderas with high steer???????WTF4

Sounds good to me ... would you put the 1ggze in over a 1ggtte?
What would be the pros and cons?
I would buy a complete front cut to get all that is reqd, check out

I'm sure I listed a bunch of pros and cons. the main reason would be so you can run low pinion gears in front, so that when you bust them they're easy anc cheap to replace, plus you have the added bonus of one set of spares fits front and rears. I'm pretty sure I also already mentioned I probably wouldn't do it, but it IS an option.

Andrew
I believe the 3UZ is the 4.7, 2UZ is the 4.3. could be wrong. there would be more letters tagged on the end for vvti.
mmmm vvti.
yes like Andrew mentioned the 5M/7M engines are good swap into bunderas, as close to bolt in as you'll get for a 6 cylinder.
hey Andrew have you figured out who I am yet?

the supercharged engine gives power down low, better for offroad
the turbo version seems to run hotter and it should have an intercooler
intercooloer + mud = no go so good
1UZ-FE - you can buy the motors for under $2000 in a half cut, so you get a factory computer with it, but you run in to difficulties when using a manual gearbox, so an after market computer (wolf) $1400ish $500 to wire, bell housing from castle maine ?, engine mounts etc? - probably you would be doing well $6000 - but i could be completely wrong

bundyboy wrote:bey bubs, what sort of money am i looking at to do up a 22RE???
What options do i have???
how much extra umph! will i get out of it?
not much without sacrificing torque, but i would convert to 22RE if i were you
this involves, changing the intake manifold on your engine to one off a 22RE and wire in a compute (allow $500+ for someone to wire the motor)
All i am doing is changing cams and intake / exhaust mods
you can get 220HP out of a 22RE if you want to -> www.lcengineering.com

I have 22RE manifolds and injector rail here you can have for free if you pick it up or for a nominal 'postage and handling' fee otherwise. it's just taking up space and I hardly ever work on petros any more. probably have some injectors and sensors and stuff I could chuck in.
and yes I found I had to do a 20mm body lift for the rear of the plenum to clear the clutch master cylinder, ymmv!
cheers
