Hey All.

Supposed to be in Thailand right now but a little disruption in the form or a nearly burst appendix last friday has me here at home! Hopefully going this wednesday tho.

Provided all is well and I can come (I just dont want to get your hopes up and then have them come crashing down in a heap) maccas the earlier the better suits me! How about 0700?

Is this too early??? We dont want anyone wearing cranky pants!!

Also, I live in the dark ages with only an AM CB. I might be able to beg borrow or steal a UHF for the day, but I have also been thinking about buying a handheld.

Any suggestions as to which one, I would want one with handsfree attachments....

definately go uniden 40ch... two mates have handhelds, one uniden and one digitor... uniden is heaps clearer. cost around 100 compared to 70ish, but worth it...

If you do a search in general chat about this I posted a thread a while ago about which hand held was the best....I ended up getting one recommended by Area 54 and I haven't had much trouble with it, nice and clear and only set me back about $130.00 (I just can't remember the name or brand at the moment)

Thanks for the info, I had a search through and looked around on the net and I am seriously thinking about a Uniden UH044, 2 watt.

I'll have a look overseas and see what I can come up with there but otherwise if I have the funds when I get back I'll invest in one of these.

It's a 50/50 trip.

Duff, XXXL80, Stumped, Lay8on and Pete-novo from Newey and the rest from Sydney (actually Emma is from the Gong but don't hold that against her).

Still need a place close to the Watagans so we can all hook up.

ANYONE CARE TO OFFER SOME SUGGESTIONS?????

My wife is coming too... that should be fun... she's terrified of the whole 4x4 thingy after our Stockton Beach flight.....

Cheers

Suggestions for both parties to meet up -

1. Picnic Area at Ourimbah - coming from Sydney on F3 as you go down the big long hill to where the original round-about at Ourimbah used to be there is now a turn-off to a Picnic Area - not far from here to the Watagans - either the Main Watagans area or the Slippery Rock Rd Side.

2. Meet at "The Pines" - this is the main camping / picnic area in the Watagans proper - well signposted & easy to get to on 2wd trails. I can post a simple Mud Map so everyone can find it.

3. Out Of Town 4wd Centre - good if entering on the Slippery Rock Road side of the Watagans. Probably the least easy to find after the above 2.

Take a vote on the choices above - say around 8:00am at either of the 2 above ?? this would make a time of around 7:00am at Thornleigh Macca's ( approx 1 hour to Watagans from there )

If anyone needs to borrow either an AM or UHF Handheld CB then let me know - I have a few I can lend out for the day.
I also have a Winch mounted & full recovery gear - so between XXXL80 & myself I think we have the recovery gear covered.

Later - Mike H.

prolly need to work out which part of the watagans we're starting from b4 we work out a meeting place for everyone.

where are the newy ppl from? i'm from cardiff, layton is from belmont, how bout the rest? we can work out somewhere to meet up here, then convoy to the watagans or ourimbah or something...

i'd suggest edgie (or wherever) maccas at around 7am. king st prolly isn't much good cos some ppl would be travelling into town and then having to turn around again to come back out.

Hooray!!!! We have lift off.... XXXL80, sorry mate, thought you from Newy - I stand corrected.

Sounds like the picnic area might be the easiest to hook up on. I'm up for that. Sounds like you got a choice of where to go from there.

8am sounds good to me also. What does everyone else think?

I will still bring what little recovery gear I have with me as well as some tools (JIC).

Hmmm guess I better get that clutch bearing fixed.... :? :? :?

Hey guys,

Sorry to stick my head in here late, but this sounds like a ripper of a trip brewing. Would you allow a humble Nissan to tag along? I cut my teeth a year or two ago in a Rocky, if that makes a difference.

I've done a couple of drives in the Watagans, but probably not enough to suggest too many routes.

If you wanna keep this reasonably small and Daihatsu-like, that's fine by me.

I'm near the Uni at Newcastle and am happy to meet whereever Newcastle side.

Bago mountain is a pretty good drive at Wauchope!

Heath, Dave, come along. But I think that's it for numbers. We have 12 trucks with 3 being posible no shows.

Dave still has to get the day off.
Croz has to recover from his holiday and appendix extraction.
My mate Denis might decide that the Wrangler really should remain clean.

Cheers
