I tend to think that these are now pitched at 2 slightly different markets.
I reckon the STT A3 is now more of a smooth touring mud tyre, and actually I think the STT A3 and the ST are starting to merge into similar territory with the ST being an agressive AT type of tyre. I think the STT A3 is heading in the same direction as most muddies - ie less aggressive thatnmuds and more suitable for touring.
The BFG MT KM2 looks like its still heading in the direction of a maximum traction offroading but still a streetable tyre unlike the Krawler.

different market sizes, different taxing and the that the tyres are made there and have to be shipped here

I got a price from Widetread for some BFG muds 33x12.5x15and they were about $260
He said the new patter will be available by the end of the month at around the same price.
Although they look good I'm not convinced they will be better.

I think you're right. I think the MT/R created a new market segment of "aggressive A/T" aimed at more than simply mud - so such tyres are not as good in mud, but good everywhere else.
If mud's your thing, I think the BFG M/T is the best tyre short of the Claws/Swampers/Boggers class.

315x16s are $248us! $400 for a 33, they wont sell shit

I don't think they will all be $400. The price given at the start of the thread for a 17" tyre is comprable to the price of a current KM tyre. You have to compare tyres of the same size. I would expect the new 33 to be about the same price as the old 33. But remember that they are owned by Michelin.

The KM2 prices should be roughly the same as the old KM below are some prices of both tyres in the same sizes from U.S.A.
KM KM2
315-75R-16 $247 $253
285-70R-17 $234 $226
35x12.5R-17 $261 $266
37x12.5R-17 $318 $324
35x12.5R-18 $330 $318
37x12.5R-18 $429 $421

Those prices were for the Krawler and correct.
The tyre is now markes "Closeout" whatever that means, and also that there are only 3 remaining in stock.

I found this on the Pirate4x4 forum.
Some guy on pirate wrote:Very disapointed in these tires. 285/70R17s LRE on my 05 Dodge 2500. I have about 8K miles on them about 3K of that is towing my 30' 5th wheel. The tires are down to about 50% so no way am I going to get over 20K miles with these things. I was told to expect 35-45K miles from them, I wont even make half of that.
I got them when they first came out and read the BFG lit how the E series were built for full size trucks wanting MTs that last longer, perform better, tougher, and tow better.
I have run them in all kinds of stuff and here is my review:
Sand: Poor. Hard tread, so-so tread design
Mud: Acceptable. They pack up a bit but mostly clear, however nothing to comment on.
Snow: Poor. Snow packs there up and wont clear unless spun very fast.
Ice: Very poor. I have had A/T tires with more ice manners then these, very slippery. Not as bad as a HWY tire but worse then most A/T and M/T designs
Gravel: Poor the lugs pick up everything and throw them into the fender wells
Rock: Decent unless wet then they are slippery, again due to hard tread compound.
Rain: Very Good. No traction issues on the road, never hydroplaned even from puddles a few inches deep.
Overall I would say that I'm not satisfied and if I drove this truck more then once a week I would be pissed. I've run 4 pairs of tires on this truck and the Mickey Thompson MTZ were the best with very good ratings in all condtions and amazing on the ice. They only lasted 27K miles but thats about 7K more then I'm going to get out of these BFGs :shaking:
So before you believe all the smack talking about how great these are take what people say with a grain of salt.

I still think they are a rock crawling tyre, that's what the crawler is aimed at and the KM2 is it's direct decendant. Why they call it a mud terrain is beyond me compared to some dedicated mud tyres the tread is completely different. IMHO if you want a decent tyre for on/off road there are heaps better designs than this out there, ie: micky thompsons etc.
Personally for the money they are asking for the KM2 I'd go a bias competition tyre like the pedes.

This tyre is replacing the old KM MT so thats why its called KM2 MT! Do you want all MTs to have a simular tread pattern

I said that cause to me it look like a tread that would have alot of trouble self cleaning. I would rather go through a muddy swamp with the old style tread as it looks like it has better self cleaning outer lugs.
IMHO I think it should be labelled Rock Terrain.

It doesn't add up. He contradicts himself.
They wear fast but has a hard tread compound...

I'm not sticking up for him but you can get hard tread to wear fast.

Realistically hard tread should last longer than soft tread in the same application if treated right.

Don't some tyres have a silica compound that is softer and more durable.
Different tread patterns would also wear differently. I am not saying that this review is right just making a point which is probably wrong but making it anyway.
Hi All,
I was reading this post and i thought i might as well reply.
The KM2 will be available in early August, right after we have a launch for our dealers. The sizes will be 1 x 16", 5 x 17" & 1 x 18", with the rest of the current Mud Terrain being replaced in the 1st Qtr 09. If any of you are after a set i suggest contacting your local BFG dealer on 1300 30 67 57. If you cant find a local dealer drop me an email and i will get back to you with a contact. Hope this clears up any confusion about this great tyre.
