Ok, I am thinking it's gonna be easier to use an elbow, (lazy ) It looks better to me as well, unless you think I should definatley bend it all.

Hey Everybody!

It's almost time for me to start thinkin' about mods again!! Just a quick one Andy, have you done anything to make it easier to change/clean your air filter, as the 2nd battery is in the way???

Easy , I have to undo the closest battery clamp , isn't much of a drama really . If I had about 10mm more the filter would out , I'll fix that one day

Well it has started!
This is the order in which I will be proceeding, I only think I know what i am doing so bear with me.
1
Drilled the hole into the panels for the elbow it is approximateley 3.6" diameter, I am using a 3" id / 3.5"od rubber elbow ordered from ~consolidated bearing co~ and painted it flash in tyre black.
Smoothed and painted around the edges of the hole so it doesnt rust.
Glued rubber tubing around edges of hole and sealed insides with silicon.
Here's where I put it~

Looks good- I imagine that would have been fairly nerve wracking!? Make sure you use non corrosive silicon on car parts too Em. The rain and gutter stuff is the type- it doesn't release corrosive acids when curing.

I've been looking around and reckon the Hilux 2.8d or GQ Patrol 4.2d snorkels would go close to being suitable for a Feroza too.

The snorkle is next up, i will check out the ones you've suggested Dave, I think they both would fit for sure, ive seen a couple, just depends as now I have created the hole, It's probably in about the same spot as Andy's.

Umm , I don't mean to dampen the moment of adding a new accessories to your Big-Rig , but I think you may have committed your self to getting a custom snorkel , unless you can get someone to cut and plastic weld a hilux or ni$$an snorkel , I could be wrong but I think they are longer in length

I was going to post those two up the other day- didn't realise you were going to start the panel work so soon!

Off the shelf kits seem to be $300 -$400 anyway and a lot of the kit wouldn't be useable on the Feroza. As Andy said you're commited to the custom one now- keep the updates coming.

thats fine, I like custom, it will be cheaper, as long as it looks like a snorkle and works like one i dont care. hehe.

I saw a really good one on the weekend (car was owned by a GIRL too) it was custom made and looked GREAT. Pity I didn't get pics! Keep it up Em it is looking great

Well finally got the thing on.. just have to connect it to the filter case now....looks like a snorkle should and works like one ... so i am happy...

~ went to exhaust shop and got some 2.5" lukey stainless steel pipe cut to size and bent + a mounting bracket welded on for $45. sweeeet..
~ $2 high gloss black paint and primer painted it...
~ drilled some holes for the bracket into the front window frame bit...
~ put the elbow in its place and snork into elbow.. used a hose clamp and some silicon to keep it there.
~ used plastic rivets and screws/washers to fix it to frame.
I just have to get some flexy pipe i can run into the filter box...I was planning on making some modifications to the filter box but I dont have the energy or the resources to do it....

My father inlaw has a chromed snorkel on his Patrol (homemade) - will have to tell him it's gay!

Please do... No its not THAT bad, I just did'nt want to have to polish my massive bullbar as well as the snorkle and the arial when they all lose bling....Its just too much work.

Well plumbing isnt done yet...but im keeping it fairly simple..just some clamps and flexy pipe as short as i can go straight into standard filter box...am having dramas with the nice rubber edging I put around the hole drilled...it keeps peeling off grrr have tried some glue some bloke recommended its contact glue for rubber and its sh**t, also tried silicon....whats a really strong glue for metal and rubber ??

Hi Ferog,

Best of the Best is Loctite 406 Super Adhesive - it is for "difficult to bond surfaces" It comes in a 25ml bottle & is as expensive as hell ($30) but is the ONLY thing we use to glue any sort of rubber to metal. You can get it from any sort of Engineering Shop or place that sells Loctite products like CRC Bearings.
Make sure you really want it on there as it WON'T come off again.
Couple of hints - it dries in under 30 seconds ( sometimes more like 10secs ) so only do a little bit at a time. ie: glue 20mm - stick it on - glue the next 20mm - stick in on & so on.....
Make sure both surfaces are as clean as you can get them - once clean rub down with a bit of metho on a rag & let dry - then apply glue.
DON'T get it on your fingers

Roof and gutter type silicone should hold it. You may need to tape it in place for a couple of days and give it at least three days to dry. Clean up both the rubber and the metal with mineral turpentine (turps) and let it dry before applying the silicone.

The Loctite 406 Mike posted is a type of Superglue (ie cyanoacrylate type glue). Be careful if you choose to use it, it can leave a cloudy looking residue on things.

what filters are used for the snorkel?

finished the whole job on fri...well except for the minor glueing dramas...Ive connected it all up...using 2.5" flexi tubing...a couple of clamps and a peice of pvc pipe...she is set...running nicely, looks sweet too I am so proud of it....

internals.... not very high tech...but it will do. oh and im using a finer filter as well.
