Ferog make sure you get stainless steel if you're going to do it. I think grade 416 is the good stuff that polishes up really well- most exhaust shops should be able to help you out. Mandrel bent is best too- so the bends are the same diameter as the pipe (it won't affect airflow too much but will look a lot better.)

You could do a "How to" and post pics etc. ;)

Thanks David,
I was thinking of spraying it black or powder coating it but u can't with stainless steel can u, I suppose i could polish it up make it really bling bling!

I will post up a how to if it turns out well and if no one does before me.

I'm just waiting for Andy to get his s**t together and send me some pics   ;)

Yeah, go the stainless. You can polish it or leave it as is- never have to worry about it chipping and rusting.

Another option could be to suss out other vehicles with snorkles that look like they'd fit. I don't know for sure but you may be able to easily adapt an off the shelf one?

I'm seriously thinking about getting one/ making one. My K&N pod filter is bloody useless in hot weather and kills the performance big time. The factory canister with a snorkel is looking like a good option- I just don't like the idea of cutting into the bodywork to fit it.

G-day All , I think the pic's above pretty much show how I've done it , If you want close up pic's of anything just yell out . I used 75mm tube which was mandrel bent by a local bloke $50 , got the ram from ORE $55 ( shop around , you'll be surprised ) got the 90' elbows from coventreys $25 each ( auto shop ) Got the local panel shop to cut the hole and to mount it using a pop rivet style of nut and bolt system , tuff as nails ( gave them a block of beer ) got a mate to rearrange the filter box and did the rest myself . I just painted it gloss black , easy to touch up

How do you find it on hot days with the extractors? My extractors radiate a lot more heat than the old factory manifold and on high 30 degree days it drives like a slug due to all the hot air being sucked in. It doesn't help with the detonation either.

It's ok, seems alot quicker! where i had it previously was almost the same distance away from the extractors, it gets warm but not hot, It'll probably catch on fire today now ive said this  It was kinda an experiment too, no one I knew could tell me anything bad about it so I done it :D

I don't have any pic's of the filter box being modded anymore thanx to a lightning strike last year which fried my phone lines and PC . When I got the tube bent up I made a template out of 75mm stormwater pipe with fittings to show the angles which took the guess work out for the tube bender . The filter box has been turned upside down so the mounting bracket which would be sitting on top has been cut off , the air intake ( snorkel side or passenger side guard ) has been cut off and re-welded on the opposite side and the other one has been cut / welded to suit the plumbing that leads up to the black box . A few brackets were made to hold it in place . Print off one of the pic's above and make a few inquires , I'm sure someone on the Outer Limits board could help you out    .

Here ya go Emma , the measurements are centre to centre , Back in the olderrrrrrrrrn days I use to run a lot of bending machine like mandrel benders , press benders , rotary benders , CNC benders etc and that's the easiest way to measure bent pipe , tell who ever is bending your pipe ya want it this way and they will think you know what's it's all about

Before I get myself in the sh#t , the measurement 360 mm is from a square cut to the first bend , I have a rubber 90' elbow going into the guard , I did it this way cos I wasn't at the time sure where the bend was spose to be . If I did it again I would make it a complete piece .

I also put a weather seal between the mounting brackets to stop any rubbing , it's like a bit of strong foam
