You've got a point Steve, the sincro's do flog out and the clutch isn't the best. But i've yet to see one blow gears. I heal toe shift all the time out of habit so the dodgey sincro's in mine don't bothe me to much

Dave you were looking at running a hilux transfer, have you considered a 3rz?
You mentioned the commo motor never getting past engineering but there are a few out there on the roads, so it either was or is possible. but big engine for a little car.
BTW

Most hilux boys pull the 3rz to put the V6 bomb in so if I went that way I would just do the bomb.
And my zook is not a small car any more. just the diffs alone has doubled the weight of the zook. With enough work and it all done correctly the V6 can get passed. But it is a hell of a lot harder now then it was just over a year ago. The enganeering laws changed back about 13 months ago making it a lot harder to pass things. I think this is just going to be a buggy so I don't have to worry about it.
I was going to run twin lux transfers behind the th700 but that convertion alone ($1700) would cost more then just running a G16b that is lighter and only 25kw lower in power.

Im yet to see someone pull a 3rz out to put a bommodore hunk-o-junk in... youd be a fcukin idiot to do it. Big underpowered, hard to cool properly heap-o-shit.
If it were me, id look at a 2rz, 2.4L, same pysical size, but maybe a little easier to engineer due to being 300cc less in capacity. Good reliable engine, easy to cool, easy to install if running hilux geartrain.
Just make sure it doesnt have burnt valves (about the only real downfall of the rzfe series, if valve clearances havent been kept in check it may have burnt valves.)

I havent done it but its supposed to be pretty easy to pull decent power out of the 3rz depending on which commo v6 you go for it has 12 - 35kw less but will be a much smaller shorter/easier engine to fit into a zuk.
bolt on an toyo sc12 supercharger - they are cheap and easy, and make the 3rz sing, plus no expensive adapters, easy to fit, easy to cool, yes your truck is heavier now but making it even heavier again is less appealing.
I have heard of alot of lux guys doing commo conversions, plus alot of guys doing 3rz conversions into their lux, i havent heard of anyone pulling a 3rz to go a commo its normally the diesel they rip out or the 2rz.
Plus too many (not all) commo conversions have on going expensive cooling problems.
just get a 3rz and do this:

and become a street queen

SORRY SORRY I was thinking about the old 22r..... and the other old lux engines. Yes I have looked at the 3RZ and it is still kinda on the books. I have a few wrecker mates on the look out for a few different options for me. I would love to find a good priced 3RZ with a auto behind it even if it was out of a 2wd hiace or lux I would just run it through the zuk transfer.

what about a 1uz? this is in a rocky we did and it runs a vitara v6 radiator and sits perfectly on half temp all the time. damn its a nice motor to drive and is all alloy.
so not legal in a zook though.

hahaha funny thing is that there is one complete with trans on ebay right now.... But its in brizvagas.
I don't thing the chassis wold take a LS1.
Joe have you put a 2rz or 3rz into anything?
Also Joe do you thing the sierra transfer would hold up if a put a 120ish kw with auto in front of it? It has a 6.5s rocktoyring, reinforcement on the mounts both on the chassis and transfer with poly/solid bolt through mounts.

sierra case will not last long. will have to look at other t/case options. divorced hilux, rover etc.

Joe what is your opinion on gearing with how it sits right now? Vitara G16b, Vitara 5 speed, shorten jack shaft to sierra case (6.5s) into 60 series diffs with 4:11s. 38-12.50/15s (they only measure 37") The front diff has been moved forward to where it sits under where the factory radiator sits with 98.5" wheel base.
If I was to keep the vitara engine and 5 speed. Would you suggest leaving it at that? or putting in the vitarra transfer as a second transfer? (I already have it modified to be put in) Or would you put diff gears in it (4.54,4.88, 5.29). or both?
Making it a auto in time is not 100% out of the question but it will not be right now.
This is only going to be a toy and comp truck. It may be doing winch challenges like cliffhanger so I will need some higher speeds at times but it will never see the road except for when its on a trailer.
What would you suggest?

depending if you drive like a meathead? or if you havent allready done it the larger HD output on the case would be a minimum i would think. And of you did do away with 6.5 sierra case and went a lux case or similar to still have a nice low geared crawler not a mud runner 4.7s in the case and 4.8s or 5.29s would probably be on the cards with the big shoes you will be wearing.
How long til its going to be a runner again?becoming quite a long project now
3RZ for the win
