yep longfields are nearly half the price. Bobby just gave us warranty on one of ours, we actually didn't expect it or really ask for it, he is just that honest he just offered. It had only cracked the cage on a 30spl that was put in 2 days before tufftruck 2005 and honestly has never been looked at since, so it could have been cracked for a while. We really only asked to buy a replacement cage, but he offered a warranty unit. How can you beat that! that poor cv has done 6 tufftrucks and nearly 40comps and many wheelin weekends...... longfeilds all the way i say!!

I myself just went through a set of Cal's on a trailing trip. If only he would use 4340 unstead of 4140...

latest set of cals are black not chrome. so i dont know if they are made from something different or just a different factory. The splines are slighty different. instead of the spline groove tapering out, it just stops.

That is correct, I got the short side (one that broke) before they went out of stock and waited for the long side untill a week ago (darker color).
Does anyone make axles out of 4340 unstead of 4140 (Cals)?
I know snakeracing has CV's out of 4340, but no axle

Hey mate, I was running 44in groundhogs on my GU ute, all my running gear was standard, 42TD 5sp with the big rear diff I never once had any problem with powering and no breakages. I was running factory CV's which are very strong and those rear diffs are unbreakable, I am a big fan of the old right foot locker too gave it death every weekend.

mine ended up lasting tuff truck and since fine. Done a short side front axle in the marbles being stupid just out of the bonusline. Sheared at the cv spline end. Thats a 3t truck below 10psi in the tyres. Happy with that, so im putting another front diff in the rear.

the question i still ask my self and others is: if you put in stronger cv's and axles with diff lock, doesn't the most natural place for something to break head up the line? by this i mean uni's, propshaft, and then tranfer case? i think it all depends on driving style, what track your on and type of tyre. i'm only running baby tyres for now (35s) and will probably learn alot when i go up in size. i run standard cv's and axles - open diff and for now happy to replace cvs if they snap (yes its a c@#t of a job). as i said earlier - a lot can go into breaking/ not breaking anything.

Free wheeling hubs are quicker to change then cvs haha, they would be what would be popping after upgraded cvs go in woulnd't it?
