G'Day All,
I know that Daihatsu bumpers won't do too much good in an accident and mine with the body lift was rigged pretty cheesy. I wanted something that I could scrape on the rocks and actually do damage to the rocks...also do some major damage in case of an accident. The main part of the bumper is 2"X4" 3/16" thick rectangular steel tubing. The end caps and flat plate on the top is also of 3/16". They used my old winch mount and welded it all together. The light hoop is also of 3/16 wall tubing. It probably weighs a lot as it took two guys to mount it with the winch on it. All of the stress would be placed on the frame and the front cross member. the rear of the truck is protected well with the tube rear cross member. I slid off of a six foot rock and landed on it. The crash just put a few scratches in the tubing...blew out a sidewall in a tyre with a two and a half inch gash but the rear was protected. I wanted the same for the front. I haven't noticed any difference in the weight as far as throttle response and springs sagging.
