Tray

Post by Damo »

What did you make the tray out of? Looks like maybe 40mm SHS?

It looks a little flimsy considering there is no triagulation. If that tray cops a whack from the side or the back it's just going to skew over, or be pushed into your cab.

I'm with Damo in regards to the tray , looks very flimsy.

Next question whhy have you done this mod? It looks like you've done a pretty good job of the ute conversion but why do it. You haven't extended the wheelbase or are you going to do that later. I could understand if you were extending thhe wheelbase and putting larger tyres under it but seeing as you are in QLD Iit seems those sort of mods are next to impossible to do legally

looks good mate, well done  I do agree that some extra bracing on the lowere frame of the try would be worthwhile, if it was me (I cant fit in a zook any way  ) mI would want enough strenght in it to hold steady when you lean it into a tree of a rock or whatever is in the way

My Oppinion anyway ;)

and munga the reason i chopped mine was very clear......RUST

too much to consider repair and cheaper to chop ;)

and yes it looks cool but it will free up tyres when flex. and it means no more kids when 4bing to scare the bejesus out of.....

panel work is great chris but tend to think the tray could use a bit more strength coz you will use it to slide off banks.... trust me on this ;)

shithot work otherwise bud

didnt know you had cancer bud.

my bad.

i took my back seat out and 'lost' the bracket for the same childish reason :)
cant take more than one pax now.

still think the best reason for a chop chop is to get some wheelbase.
but then, im a closet longie lover.

anyone wanna swap their lwb for a tintop?

That's why I did mine too (um, and there was a bit of panel damage too). But if I had my time again I would have fixed the rust!!!

Nice neat job but you'll find that the tray will get bent out of shape first half decent whack to the corner. My tray has copped quite a few whacks etc (more than I thought I would do) and luckily has stood up to it. Also you may find that the lack of weight in the rear is now a problem. I had to add weight the tray to make it perform better. It tended to just spin wheels rather than grab. Nothing a bit more tube, a spare tyre and a jerry can or two didn't fix
