Ive just found a MQ (round head lights) LWB wagon that has the 2.8 petrol in it (L28)
the guy says that is says HG48 on the compliance plate.
Does that mean H233b with 4.8 ratios in it and C200 front with 4.8's in it? i didnt know the H233b's came with 4.8's?
I want to grab them if they going to fit my MK with the HG43 so i can fit 36's have have realy nice low gearing.

Yea i know the HG43 and HG46 are H233b's with the number relating to the ratio, but i didnt know there was 4.8 for the h233b and that it came in the LWB wagon. this looks like a score if it what i think it is

I was under the impression that H233 were in coil sprung cars, and the big H260 were in leaf sprung utes.
RX 2.8- 4.265-1
Mav XL and Patrol TI with manuals - 3.9-1
Utes with leaf springs- 4.375-1
The rest have- 4.111-1
3.0 Gu,s should have 4.3s
Hope this helps

other than maybe a turbocharged 502 big block in a patrol, you are never going to need the extra beef of the bigger 260 in the arse of a patrol.
Its just there for the wank factor

which engine are you running. 4.8's have the big one as do some 3.0L turbos. 4.8's have 4.3 gears, im unsure about the 3.)l ratios.

Yeah pretty sure you are right, HG is the H233b and HH is the H260.

Vickers, did you read all the posts? or diffs under another vehicle?

the h260 was only in leaf sprung gu/gq's.. and the rear of all mk/mq utes?
the 260 is also shorter than the 233 in gu's bu approx 50mm..
the easiest way to tell is that the 260 has floating axles not standard 1 pieces jobbies like every other patrol diff.. meaning that it will have hubs that come out about 3 inches from the WMS.. also 260's only had drums not discs..

Unfortunately the standard diffs ( all except H260 ) are absolute rubbish as far as strength, go to any speed event , winch challenge or similar and you will see how many of these diffs actually do break. Centres and axles.
The H260 came out in some model coil spring GU's , GU leaf spring utes, as well as Leaf spring GQ ute , Leaf spring MK/MQ ute , And i am told G60 but not sure about them.
I have a h260 in my comp truck out of a GU wagon and as previously said they are huge and have a flat shaved bottom.
They bolt straight in the GQ's and GU's with no mods.
They are not as strong as we all think, second drive at cruiser park on australia day using comp spec 40 trepadors we snapped of the pinion and twisted a axle pretty bad, nothing overly bad we were trying.
TB42 with turbo , but no were the horsepower of some trucks.
One of the weak points is the pinion is machined down to except the smaller front pinion bearing ( i think it is the same as non H260 diffs ) so this it were they snap when hit on a rock.
Saying this the diffs are stronger than standard but not unbreakable by what a lot of people think.
From my experience The lockers are more expensive , the axles are harder to find at wreckers as well as aftermarket ratio's are not as many to choose from.

Im building a lwb zook with mq diffs commo v6 and dual transfers and after studying the last 2 pages it seems i should fit the h260 rear sitting in the shed instead of the h233.The h260 i have also doesnt have the shaved bottom
