the H260 diffs are HUGE that are very very very big.

H233B are the same size as all GQ front and rear and MQ rear.

the H260s are far far bigger than this.

also as bazzle said on the ID plate usually the numbers can be found.

James was making the enquiry for me...seems that it's a h233, from what i've read:

- has 11 bolts
- rounded bottom (not flat, like h260)
- does not look noticable bigger than front

Thanks All
Jonty

Thanks for the confirmation guys.

Now that this has been sorted out, I'm interested to know if there is any advantage to the larger h260 diff? stronger? Is it markedly better than the h233??

Not that it makes much difference...just wondering :?: :?:

yeah they have massive axles they are much stronger i think air lockers do cost more for them and parts are not as common, also cwp are more expensive as well.

I read somewhere that HG code means 233 and HH means 260 ... but stuff on the net has sometimes known to be wrong ;) and that the 2 numbers are the ratio

according to my manual the H260 is a 4.8-1 ratio. Are you sure MQ/MK diffs are the same as GQ? My MK SD33TD has 4.6's and I'm pretty sure that is a H233b diff, but thats not the standard ratios in a GQ ( 4.3 to 3.9's?)

just reading here, out of the GQ 1988 to 1997 manual i got for my machine

all hard top and station wagon modles execpt the patrol ti and the maverick XLT are equipped with a H233b final drive assembly with either a conventional or limited slip diff as standard.

the maveric XLT ,patrol Ti and some ST are equipped with h233b final drive with locking differential, utility and cab chassis modles are equipped with the H260 with either conventional or LSD

All modles have the a final driv ratio of 4.111:1 ecept the ST and Ti modles euipped with a manual trans, 3liter modles and maverick XL .

the 3 litre modles has a ratio of 4.375:1
and the ST, Ti and XL have a final ratio 3.900:1

Correct, the Coil Cabs didn't have a H260 to my knowledge.

im trying to understand it a bit here ,

my compliance plate reads HG41
its a 1988 GQ 4.2l petrol LWB

iv also been told i have the ST now reading my manual which is a 2003 one,
all modles have the final drive of 4.1.1 eccept the ST and TI with a manual transmisstion , the 3 litre modles and the maveric XL

reading on it says the 3 litre has 4.375:1 ratio and the ST ,TI and the XL have 3.900:1

just wondering also what the 1992 on ward RX and DX have ?

I don't think the ratios were set in concrete. If you have HG41 on your compliance plate you GQ definitley had 4.1s when it left the factory.
