I work with a guy who used to be a manager at DAS Fleet when it was in full swing supplying government and private industry with vehicles. They used to keep them from 40 to 120k on average.
So I just popped my head over the wall & asked what was more reliable on average (I didn't tell the reason behind the question to try & keep it impartial) & he said Commodores used to cost them a lot less than the Falcons over the time of the lease & they were more reliable.
He also said Camry's were the most reliable provided the oil was changed (which is fairly indemic on Toyota engines as they tend to sludge).

The oil sludge issues on toyotas are a real problem especially since they've been recommending extended servicing intervals using synthetic.
There's a class action going on that was raised in another thread about that particular toyota problem.

I had a VS II Commodore wagon work car. I blew the auto transmission at about 105000kms too. Plus by the time 10000kms had passed between services the oil barely registered on the dipstick. Whereas my Isuzu engined Rodeo still measures full.

Agreed. Never mind that 1 year after you bought it new they revise the exterior just enough to make yours look 10 years old.
I remember when working in car audio that the first time I pulled an Australian car apart (VS Statesman) I couldn't get the interior panels to go back in so they looked straight with even gaps etc. My boss said to just do the best I could and then next time a Commodore of Falcon comes in to have a good look at the interior panel fit before they get pulled out. Of course when I did this I noticed they are fitted crap straight from the factory. So much easier to work on Jap cars. Everything just seems to fit.
Commodores and Falcons are both crap. Get over it.

Nah keep going fellas its really funny at this time of night. Truth is boys holdens, falcons, camrys, garbage trucks, spud harvesters, submarines, army tanks, roadtrains, articulated tractors, motorbikes, cranes, quads, gators, buses, FEL's, road sweepers, headers, grannys little datsun, muck spreaders, forklifts, bulldozers, scooters, excavators, speed boats, fire trucks, ambos, hay bailers, ships, aeroplanes, suitcase elevators, air seeders, post hole diggers, cars, utes, vans, cop cars, line markers, mini bikes, bobcats, tele handlers, tray trucks, silage wrappers, diesel locomotives, shunters, cement mixers and even fantastic F100's are all just mechanical devices which F%CK UP now and again and which drives us bloody crazy fixing em all the time! But nah as i said keep going fellas it's interesting to read.
