I have a 350 chev years ago with the factory HEI (the big ugly one) and it had a vac advance?
maybe it has been removed on yours.
Would make it run hot without one!

I'm amazed how much cooler mine runs with it connected! I've gone from having overheating problems to an engine that takes ages to warm up...
I'm also running that Redline stuff I mentioned earlier- that seems to have helped drop the temps too.

well the magical mysterious problem is gone, but i have no idea why??? can't be air block as no water passes through the back of intake manifold
I'm going to give the vac advance a go anyway, has merrit. will do that today

Have you done a compression test on the cylinder head? Last time I had a little overheating problem it cost me 3 grand !!!!

well i might pass on doing that then, it goes hard enough so i'll leave that one alone

Well the vac advance didn't do anything as far as i can tell, but no more overheating so all is good

That makes little sense to me
Air locks don't form from something leaking/pumping air (unless there's a problem.) It simply depends on any air gaps that are present when you fill your cooling system etc.
They can clear themselves by chance, and if your serious overheating problem has just magically stopped, i'm further led to believe that may have been the cause..... Like I said before, my 1UZ V8 had major heating problems last week after I fitted my radiator. After adding about 50ml of coolant into the bleed point above the thermostat it almosts runs cold. Sounds too simple to be tru I know, I thought the same.
Anyways, good to hear it's sorted.
