i dont know if im allowed to say much, but at the winch challenge up in qld last wkend 1 of the trucks (wont go into detail) was running a prototype 4x6hp highmount setup. boy could it move.

maybe an idea for the next project????

I'm going to look into the 7.8hp motors and in regards to the idea for the next project.. anything's possible! ;)

Just a thought, but if your thinking of running 4 motors you could look at running your set up for running the motors together and a gigglepin set up to get them side by side, "WOLLAH" 4 motors gotta pull harder than 15 year old boy. While your doing that you may as well put the gear reduction in as well.

why people go to all that trouble with high mount winches is beyond me. If you are going to spend the time and money to run 2, or even 4 motors along with all the other mods they do it would seem to make a LOT more sense to either use a better winch to start with or make a completely new winch from scratch. By the time they modify the drum, freespool, add additional motors and whatever else these winch challenge guys seem to do why hasnt someone designed a winch challenge specific totally custom winch? I cannot understand why people use a warn highmount and then spend lots of dollars and time modifying it untill hardly any standard parts are left. Or am i missing something?

The way i see it is there is a very limited market for such product. The price of research and developement, building the winch, and sales would be rather higher for only a few sales. Also alot of people will do these mods in steps. It's easier to find some cash here and there than it is to come up with ten G to buy a comp winch.

Also I'm in NZ and they made it really easy to give them money!
How's it going and would love to get a picture of your truck all set up. ;)
Did you get everything sorted out?

I've ripped the Link ECU out and sent it back and are in the process of fitting an Autronic. Once it is done I'll be testing a lot. I'm also organising a Winch Challenge for the beginning of November so will get touse it all in anger then.
I'll get some photo's as soon as I get it outside again. Its al road legal now so that saves a fair bit of stuffing around.

the reason we all modify standard winches is because rules are set to what we can run for winches have to be off the shelf with off the shelf parts basicly. no custom winches are allowed, trust me if we were allowed to build our own winches from scratch it would be alot easier and alot cheaperand alot faster.

show me a better faster stronger winch from manufacturer and i'll buy one. thats why we mod these cause no one makes what we got.

its simple really, build a custom one for yourself then offer it to anyone else that wants one, make it ur business/product and sell them, then they are become an off the shelf product.

Check out the goodwinch G12 (I think thats the model)

I wouldnt buy one though, am sticking to the 8274 because every man and his dog has one so you can always beg, borrow and steal parts.

I dont know that much about winches .. but that goodwinch jigger certainly looks very well constructed.

so in theory, could you have say two winch motors, with you adapdor and then off them have another two using the gigglepin thing????

Yes it is possible to run 4 motors if your electrical system could handle it. (well in NZ winch comps anyway, not sure about OZ winch comps)

Sure is possible. Good battery and good solenoids are all you need.

didn;t one of the comp guys in qld do this? and blew the gears or casing apart the first time it was used?
