Toyota LC 76/79/80/100 Superflex Radius Arms

I just chucked some on my 80 series. It had a 5" lift and 35 muds with castor plates and running the rear sway bar. I was worried about the same things all you guys are. But, even though my wheel alignment, castor and ballance was all correct I was getting alot of bumpsteer and a few wobbles due to bumps.
After fitting these arms I am still very surprised. Braking is normal, even to bothsides just like stock. And to my amazement it corners alot better than with castor plates. Its seems to torque down on normal corners and round abouts and has LESS body roll. Feels way more stable. But I am still running rear sway bar disconnects.
Also there are hardly any vibrations or wobbles through the steering. The same roads I normally drive and hit bumps, where my steering jerks and shakes are gone.. It does have a bit more body roll when I was taking the gateway round about at about 75kph. I havent flexed them yet as I have to extend brakelines and shocks.
The only bad side is that when fitting them, the gap between the passenger side arm bush's wouldnt fit over my track bar (by about 4mm). So I had to remove passenger tierod end and slip it over. Then I had to bend a brakline out of the way and cut out the brakeline bracket and the old swaybar mounts.
Mr 1madengineer, where you drinking that day?
ps. Im not offiliated with superior in anyway shape or form. But if they want to give me some brakelines or shocks, it would be much appreciated.

I finally have my 80 finished so i have fitted all my suspension gear up including a set of superflex arms..
They seem pretty good. flex isnt too bad, i woulda liked a little more down travel on the front but they are still a lot better than the std arms.
its definalty no ramp queen anymore but thats not wat i was aiming for anyway, going for low and stable this time round with decent size tyres.
So far have only had them bush once, cant say they did anything wrong. seemed to work very well, and very predictable..
On road they defiantly induce more body roll (nothing unacceptable tho), but theres always a down side.. plus i am running no rear sway bar. if i was running that im sure u would hardly notice that they were there.
Specs of the car are
37" tyres
820mm boss shocks front
1000mm boss shock rear
4" flexy coils all round
front is completly stock except the arms.. rear has modded shock mounts, and relocated arms on the diff.
Forwards up the ramp is not a strong point, but in real life situations in the bush they flex a lot better.. and lets face it how many ramps get in ya way in the bush
i'm waiting on a mate to send me the pics from bush on the weekend.. if i ever get em i'll chuck em up.

haha ..... you rangie guys have always had some great stuff available for them!! they flex and ride nice from the factory BUT if guys were interested i would certainly look at it. Would they be of benefit to the rears of the disco's? or just stick to the rangie / disco fronts?GRIMACE wrote:Greg... when you gonna make a set for a rangie! Fluffy is keen!
And I need an reason to fit the 1" body lift!
Currently i am trying to do some research and design on shocks. Specifically designed for Aussie rigs, not some junk that has fancy stickers. I am looking at some fully rebuildable, remote res, adjustable on compression and rebound. And also trying to get the bits to make my own shock dyno test rig If i am gunna do it I will do it right!!

Yeah I must admit that at present the rangie does flex pretty well.1MadEngineer wrote:haha ..... you rangie guys have always had some great stuff available for them!! they flex and ride nice from the factory BUT if guys were interested i would certainly look at it. I think the disco 2 would beneift greatly from a set of arms front and rear, but getting someone to fork out that sort of dollars is gonna be the hardest part.
Also in the rear any increase in flex along with a slight lift is goin to require a new watts link arm with a slight bend incorporated to stop it from fouling on the diff mount at full droop.
The main reason I am interested is to simply learn and try something new. I have always been keen on trying out and comparing products for my vehicle.
So you can only imagine that after seeing all these superflex arms and the great benifits they had under a pootrol (which to be honest is shit house from factory), I was instantly curious and keen on a set myself...

Put me down for four, as long as they have long travel, and come with beefy shafts.1MadEngineer wrote:haha ..... you rangie guys have always had some great stuff available for them!! they flex and ride nice from the factory BUT if guys were interested i would certainly look at it. I really liked the EFS extreme shocks for their beefy mount eyes. not just some tube tack welded onto the end of the body, but they just weren't long enough for their application.
What sort of price range shocks do you want to compete against? Fox's?

still negotiating, and sorting custom specs and lenghts. I want them to be the best bang for buck, and as you know i hate doin $hit halfarsed...rockcrawler31 wrote: Put me down for four, as long as they have long travel, and come with beefy shafts.

They will have ~46mm bore and 7/8" (22mm)rods, alloy remote res canistors and ALLOY adjuster knobs (not faaarken pissweak plastic ones). They will have VITON high temp seals as well.
the pricing should be half way between a TurdDog and a Fox rem res (non adj) so they will be stuff all more than a full set of TD's. Plus they will be fully rebuildable, and parts will be redily available.
Can't say too much more, But will have better specs once the Xmas silly season is over.

Got around to fitting the 3" arms the other day
First mark is 'standard', second mark is front sway bar removed and final (top) mark is with the flex arms (& no sway bar). Drove up the ramp in 2WD til a wheel slipped.
Dunno how, but when I reversed up to take pics today I drove further up the ramp....still in 2WD
There is only bout 5mm between the top of the tyre and the inner guard...
Now I need to extend the brks on the rear sway bar cos they're almost hitting the rear shocks!
When I get a spare moment I'll drop the front shocks to see if they are restricting articulation.

remote res can be run anyway you want them to run. but because of the remote which has to be mounted to the body of the shock, it makes more sense having the body up high and mounting the remote out of the way of everythingrockcrawler31 wrote:sounds the goods.
any chance of making them so that the rod can be run on the bottom?
i like the 7/8 shaft spec.
turbos are nice but i'd rather be blown

I'm guessing (if it's anything like mine) it's because when reversing up a ramp there is a further weight transfer on to the front forcing the front to tuck a little better than if you drive up forwards. Mine will flex out the front nicely reversing up, but drive up forwards and it will go on it's side before tucking the front.Sixty wrote: Dunno how, but when I reversed up to take pics today I drove further up the ramp....still in 2WD
Try disconnecting the shocks and run a rear swaybar and see how much further the front will go. i think you'll be pleasantly surprised

The rear sway bar is just visible near the rear wheel in the picrockcrawler31 wrote:I'm guessing (if it's anything like mine) it's because when reversing up a ramp there is a further weight transfer on to the front forcing the front to tuck a little better than if you drive up forwards. And when I get the Cruiser back after its heart transplant, I can test out the twin lockers! No need for any more flex
