HID ballast not working

Post by shanegtr »

Hi, I've got a HID ballast that dosent work. The bulb wont ignite and the ballast just makes a high pitched whistle (if you can call it that). The ballast is also getting very hot Is there any common dramas with them that can be fixed - or can they be fixed? I might pull it out and take it to one of my sparky mates and see if he can find anything wrong with the circuitry

Well, opened it up last night. If I can say anything about them then let me say this - there is no way a single drop of water is getting into them they are sealed up real good.
Anyway, the ballast is full of black snot to prevent problems with vibration. Its impossible to check the unit out to see if there is a problem.

Anyone got a spare ballast you want to sell?

Yep, 3 different bulbs and all do the same thing - nothing. It will eventually pop the fuse if its left trying to run long enough

I'm just curious as to what brand it is - sounds to be well put together (...well apart from your failure)
