The event this year is in the Mt Cole region. Good hard tracks. Steep rocky hills etc. As a minimum you would want 35's and lockers if you want to be competitive i would say.

You need a winch of course aswell.
If you want to compete but don't care for a win you'd have a blast on 33's and one locker with a bit of winching.
This was an awsome event last year and should be this year also.

In regards to specs for the Pursuit, please if you are going to post them to the public please make sure you read our website carefully.

We state we prefer 33 inch or greater as this would be an advantage, and of course aggressive tyres.

One diff lock at least and a winch, the rest of the set up of the vehicle is up to you.

Cheers. Rudi

Will be nice only having to travel an hour and a half up the road instead of the usual 4 to 5 most comps seem to be for us.

Guts coverted the Lux to left hand drive. He was always sitting it on the passager door, so he thought if i'm sitting on the left i'll see what i'm doing better.

A message from Hobzee...the other half of Navrun 4wd Events

Event Date: 21/22nd April, 2007

The Piranha Pursuit is like a Pajero Challenge and a Nav Nite / Winch Challenge all rolled into one event. The navigation is relatively easy and designed simply to get you to drive a particular route, but you will still need a GPS. There are questions along the way just to prove you have taken the right path.

At various intervals there are checkpoints and special stages. The stages are usually timed. Last year there was a blind fold stage stretching almost 1k along a shallow river. There were speed stages and winching stages. Every year is different but you can expect some hard core winch challenge style stages. This means you will need a vehicle mounted winch. Also, those who have well set up rigs with diff locks and large aggressive tyres will have a clear advantage.

This year there is no stipulation on roll bars as it is not yet sanctioned by the CCDA.

Vehicle teams will depart from 3pm at 5min intervals. You will receive your notes 30 min prior to your start time. There will be a half way stop back at camp (for refuelling, a catered meal and a 1 hr minimum break). Base camp will not be far from a town with LPG. There will be another meal upon finishing mid morning on Sunday.

The Mt Cole and Avoca areas have been chosen for their difficult terrain and vast network of fantastic tracks. This is 30-45 mins from Ballarat and takes about the same amount of travel time as the Walhalla area.

You may enter as a single vehicle or a team of two vehicles. We encourage you to pair up and keep an eye on your "buddy" as traditionally this has been a teams event. If you have teamed up you may receive your notes together and depart together. The stages will be timed on a per vehicle basis, however, you may elect to run in a stage on your own or with your "buddy". The ultimate winner will be 1 vehicle.

For further details and on-line registration please refer to www.navrun.com.au to book your spot. 1st paid gets first starting place. So pay early and start up the front. Naturally if you pay on the day you can expect to be down the back of the pack... Cost is $250 per vehicle with 2 people and additional people are +$25 ea.

So round up the mates and get those entry forms in. This is going to be a hoot!

update

Post by Hobzee »

Here I am sitting at what will be checkpoint 2 of the Piranha Pursuit. Next G working full bars so fastest internet I have had in a long time.

Imagine posting preliminary results on OL mid way through the event.

Progress check.... Navigation is straight forward and about 10 questions per half. 2 Stages so far will need winching or big balls. Otherwise not too bad. Some rain could make things tricky.

Rudi says hi... ;)

Only 2 weeks to go guys and gals..

That's what you said last time I smashed the Datsun up. Just drive down the creek Locky, you'll be fine.

Lucky I don't need to put a roof rack on that gutter.

update

Post by Hobzee »

Tracks all pre driven and sorted out...

It wouldn't be a Pursuit if we didn't do some track maintenance and so we have have been really busy getting this to be every bit as good as earlier Pursuits..

Three tracks link up and all three should be up there as the best tracks in the state. We are getting GQ Bear and his amazing team to run a stage that .... lets say .... is not suited to Rangies or Jeeps ...

I made a statement to Mike at CCDA that there shouldn't be roll overs and that if there are there shouldn't be undue risk to people. With that in mind we elected to take the powerlines out as you would only have poles to stop you rolling ... that wouldn't be too good. But we have plenty of other really really great stuff.

24x7 LPG is only 15 mins from base camp.

Allow 150-200klm course. Fuel and camping gear ok left at camp.

Starts at 3pm Sat. Last cars will be after 4pm and that is only 2 hrs short of darkness. If all goes really well to plan and no one gets lost, broken or we dont have any Rangies or Jeeps, then we should be done by about dawn.

As for teaming up, there's one stage where you will love to have someone to follow or at least know that you are not alone....

There's only about 15 questions / numbers to prove correct navigation. Nothing hidden or cryptic. Also got several special stages and secret checkpoints and wrong course will miss these too. GPS datum and format will be the same throughout the event an no projections, etc. The objective of this event is straight forward nav, but a long hard drive with special stages.

Terry will be at half way with a feed ... maybe do-nuts

Not too late to register. Can pay on the day but slowest payers start last and get less daylight..

Jeeps

Post by Hobzee »

Ok , thanks for the PMs, Jeepers ... I dont have anything against Jeeps so I shall rephrase this .. lets say that if you happen to have a Jeep then you will have to drive it sensibly on a few Special Stages if you plan on driving it home. Nissans and Toyotas exempt...

roos

Post by Hobzee »

Turps is onto it. There are heaps of roos and we saw about 1 wallaby for every 1 km. I wonder what that will do to the Big Red Toy.... You are going to have a bugger of a time keeping all four on the ground... Maybe

I have to rephrase that yet again ...

Jeeps (if not driven sensibly), Rangies and anything to do with a Big Red Toy ...
