Hey guys, i finally ahave saved all the money i need, i just have to find out which tire is better and why? I have the coin for both, either mungrels or maxxis buckshots. Thanks heaps!

will these be on the car all the time ?
if so give the mongrels a miss, soft compound will wear out too quick.
if you are looking at the Maxxis, have a look at the Bighorn, it has a little bit better side wall and the tread come a little further down

if they are just for weekend fun, then yeah go the mogrels if you can get them
as i mentioned the soft compound will wear out quick on the black top, but as
you will be only running them off road you will find the soft compound will
grip like there is no tomorrow
i run a set of Motorway Muddies on my rig and have been very happy
all except the wear as i do run mine all the time, but for $110 a tyre fitted
i can't really complain

Say they bag out to 11 (which considering the thread is 10.5inch wide, and the side wall shouldnt be toushing the ground) inches overall, what your saying is that they will only have a contact patch width of 4.4 inches at 37psi. they saw you coming a mile away. Bagging out width wise is not the important thing. Its the length of the tyres footpring that is the major change when pressures are dropped. Drop a tyre to offroad pressure. The sidewall that bags isnt in contact with the ground, but the contact patch will lengthen greatly. A bagging sidewall is also more likley to suffer from punctures/tears too unless you have heavy duty sidewalls like claws or TSL/SX swampers.

and yes the Mongrels are a remold, but this is different to a recap,
a recap is only a new tread glued on, a remold is not just the tread but the
whole side wall aswell so you end up with a slightly thicker side wall
and $200 a corner is not too bad, as i said i run the Muddie not the Mongrels
but in saying that i can get the 33 x 12.5 Mongrel for about $180 fitted
also a good idea is to run a set of simex tubes inside, this will let you run
a lower psi without a bead lock, they will set you back about another $30
a corner

My mate runs Mongrel 33's on his Mav. Great tyres! I wish they made 35's
He had a little bit of the re-mould peeling slightly on the inner sidewall (was not a problem at all) of one tyre with about 70% tread left and they replaced it with a brand spanker. How's that for service.

they do have a life time warratee on the workman ship
i have had 2 replaced, due to a manufacture problem
and they even gave me a secondhand 31" as i needed something to get me by till the replacement came
even thought i have had 2 replaced, i will still use them again as the have
no problem backing up their product, and as i have said before they do grip like hell

I took my Maxxis buckshots on the beach for the first time today, actually went way better than BFG mud terrains, quite happy. Got 2000kms on them (mostly bitumen ) and they still hav e some little nubbies on the tread blocks...

ive got buckshots. i used to swear by mtr's but these came on my new patrol. I swore black n blue id get them off my car asap but they are that good im not gunna bother. They are better onroad than mtr's and not much worse offroad at all.............. could use a little more side tread tho.
for the coin ive found nothing that beats them.
motorways are very stiff in the side wall due to the remoulding and you dont get a choice of what carcase they are built on.

I wouldn't waste your money on Mongrels personally, I found they gripped about as well as most all terrains I have tried except in mud. Traction is mainly in the treads compound and a tyres cleaning ability is in its design. I vote Goodyear MTR's all the way but can't comment on the maxxis as haven't tried them. I have also owned simex centipedes and to compare mongrels to them is simply a joke...even my nankang mudstars gripped better than the mongrels in most conditions. Mongrels only if you just drive mud. Just my opinion from my experiences though.
