vitara auto into sierra

Post by simcoz »

Just wanna know what is involved in puting a 3 speed auto in a sierra. It already has a g16b in it and i have a flex plate aswell.I wanna keep the sierra transfer but don't know what to do with the back of the auto.
I'm trying to find out what i will need to do this and if it will be strong enough to handle hard comp work.

And yes iv'e tryed doing a search but the results are very random.

Thanks in advance COZ.

The output shaft of the vitara auto has the same spline/dimeter as the output of a sierra gearbox.

You will need to make a plate to cover the rear of the vitara case, with a seal and support bearing that has the same ID as the OD of the sierra slip yoke.

I have this all sitting in a chassis in the shed so I have spent a bit of time figuring it out, but I haven't actually built it yet. Doesn't look to hard though.

You will have to take about 1.5" out of the jackshaft, which should be fine, and a new transmission mount will be needed, but this does not look impossible, makebe even with sierra transfer case mounts.

PS... My dream gearbox would be a trimatic (three speed vit) with a manual valve body (available) compression braking on all gears (possible, apparently, but normally disabled with a manual valve body) and a reverse pattern (not available with a trimatic manual valvebody)

I think this would give all the advantages of an auto and most of the control of a manual.

spot on..

you will also have to cut the floor and tunnel. you need 1.5" into the floor and 2" from the floor up the tunnel..

i have a vitara 3 speed, flex plate and torque convertor , adaptor for divorced t-case and jackshaft sitting here atm.

pm me if your keen.
