NO SPARK

Post by MQ SWB »

I have a 308 red motor in the rangie and it died on me the other day and won't start, it has a points distributor in it. Now the Coil has power to the + side of it but when I pull the lead of at the dizzy side and earth it out I get no spark when I turn it over so is this the problem or may it be something else I've over looked any help is appreciated just to get the thing going again.

TIA
Dixie
ps I intend to put a electric dizzy in it shortly

As posted on the other site. Does this coil have a ballast resistor?

Might look similar to this:

I'm confused - but it doesn't take much. :D

Which lead are you removing? The HT lead, or the low voltage wire which goes to your points?

If you're earthing the low voltage wire, you won't get spark when your engine turns over - but (hopefully) you already know that!

If there's no spark from your HT lead, perhaps the lead is buggered?

If you have a ballast resistor, add an extra (temporary) wire direct from battery positive to coil positive, and try again - that should bypass any ballast resistor circuit issues.

Good luck,

Scott
