Just went for a wheel with YBLOW4 and i went to take it out of 4wd and it went to neutral and no further!
I thought the case had just jambed up for good!
We tryed jacking it up for transmision wind up and stuff pushing fowards and backwards the ussual stuff!
Any way i got him to tow me home and the mechanic over the road had a look and the bush had desintergrated and isn't even there any more making it so it couldn't select a gear!
IS THIS COMMON AND IS THERE SOMETHING THAT HAS CAUSED THIS?
THANKS
Built swb sierra, building a lwb sierra ute and have a dmax for family camping
CONGRATULATIONS your suzi is 21 years old (or more). The shifter bushes in the gearbox and transfer only last 20 - 25 years. replacements can be found on Ebay as a set of both shifter bushes, steering biscuit (10 or 20mm) & timing plug for $40.00.
suzi parts in heidlburg.. $13. for the transfer bush alone.
had this happen to me the day after i picked mine up... 34deg out in kinglake, went from high range to low range, done what was needed, went to go back to high range... stuck in the middle.. DANG.. 2 hours later.. and after working out exactly how to get the shifter out..(its push down and twist)few cuts on the wrists, sore fingers.. lots of and the aid of a flat head screwdriver. got it down to a 2 minute job!, dont forget to drain ya oil in an effort to get whatever was left of the old bush out!

Hey i had the same problem last week. try this out.
Don't worry this is an easy fix. What's happened is the bush which keeps the transfer case gear lever in position has disintegrated and allowed the gear lever to drop leaving the transfer case stuck in nuetral. You can fix this from inside the cab, no need to remove the T case or even get under the vehicle.
The new bush shouldn't cost any more than $15. The way to replace it is:
1 Remove Tcase gear knob.
2 Remove the screws holding the Tcase gear lever boot and remove the boot.
3 Remove the smaller boot from the top of the Tcase where the lever attaches to the Tcase.
4 Push down and turn the lock ring holding the gear lever in position, it's a bayonet fitting.
5 Lift the gear lever out.
6 Install the new bush in its seat, you'll be able to see where it goes.
7 Installation of the gear lever is the reverse of removing it.
This shouldn't take more than an hour all up. Hope this helps you out.
You will find that it will shift smoother than it ever has..
Let me know if you have any dramas.

Will wear out over time, depends on how much you use the t-case shifter.
By time i mean like 10 years or so
