mk spring over conversion

Post by Wish I had coils »

Everybody is probobly sick of this question, But i would like to know a bit about doing and running a spring over axel conversion . I have a mate with a mud Racers and it was done before he bought it, One of his cross members was modified to clear front tail shaft, not sure if it has to be done. and if any one has done it can you tell me what i would need to modify, and any down sides to it ? Like how long the front uni's last as the are on a pretty severe angle.

I have a spare rolling chassis there so i have 2 spare diffs to play with.

I AM SICK OF GETTING STUCK ON THE SPRINGS, LIKE TONIGHT PLEASE HELP

yeah cheers, gotta change something wanna put on 33's on to get better diff clearance, so i think i need to do a SOA conversion or a body lift to fit them under, But SOA would be better so i don't get caught up on the springs

you can fit 33's without doin any mods. When you do a SOA you will fit 35's easy.

No-one 'gets sick' of it ....... provided you had a read up of the great info posted in the bibles.
;)

yep !
Front shaft WILL hit ....... even worse if its a 5speed gearbox :bad-words:

Sound like the one youve looked at didnt have a diff rotation done.
I cut a rear uni out bout once a year, havent cut a front out yet in 4 years. ;)

Then do ya setup on that roller & simply transfer it across when its done

Mud will catch out most rigs, the MQ/MK is no exception. Largely its 'suction' on the bash plates and once they go that front x-member acts like a plow and digs into everything.
Removing it completely does work........ but the chassis wont love you for too long

Step 1
Lift the chassis clear of the mud by doing a SOA.
Step 2
Lift the diffs higher to clear the mud by fitting bigger tyres.

36's fit without spring over... Guard Cut :D

But the money you spend doing the conversion you could just buy a cheap GQ & it'll probably be in better knick!!! Just a thought for you...

I got all the equipment to do the job, So it should'nt cost to much to do, and i would like to do it to learn a bit and atleast if something breaks i know where to look or how to fix.

I got a five speed. How much worse is it compared to a four speed?

What's the go with the diff roation? how to you know when it's right
