San Diego 91 Daihatsu...Toyota parts?

San Diego 91 Daihatsu...Toyota parts?
Hello from San Diego! I just bought a 91 Rocky from my mechanic (can't beat an English mechanic as the original owner, eh?) 'cause I heard they were awesome, and it runs GREAT and four-wheels like a banshee, but I'm scared of the parts fiasco since I need it to get around. My question is, if I got desperate after a blown engine/tranny, is there a Toyota drive-train that can be dropped into this vehicle? If so, which make/model, all that stuff. I used to be an old school Toy Land Cruiser guy and consider this a small, tough alternative. I would like to keep it forever and really fix it up, but not if its impossible. Fat chance, I figure, but worth asking. Thanks!

HiLux?
Thanks for the unbelieveably fast response, Voltan! I realize that w/ $$$ and a shop full of mods, I could pull it off, but do the bolts line up? I figure that I'd need new engine/ tranny mounts but its a non-starter if it doesn't fit. Also, is there a model year range of HiLux (not sure exactly what that is...think i've seen one somewhere...is it the little Toy truck?) to use? Thanks again, my friend!

Cool
THAT'S a HiLux! Sounds like a lot of dinero (money) that could just go to finding a used DT somewhere. I think they have those Suzuki's over here...different name though, I'm sure. Sounds wierd to put a Suzuki DT in a Rocky, but the size looks right. I'm gonna go with taking very good care of what I have and look to trying to find a spare Rocky out here in California to get parts from. You'd think there'd be one or 2 lying around in this state somewhere, eh? thanks for helping...very much appreciated, amigo!

Turbo?
What would a turbo conversion cost? If they made that, i'd love to find a used one to buy. Also...bigger axles...I'm interested...assume they are aftermarket. My old Toy Land Cruiser axles were BEEEEFY and I never had to worry about breaking one like the crappy American Jeeps do all the time...they're like pencils! Any more info is once again greatly appreciated...I don't feel so alone now...no one here has ever heard of a ROCKY. Thanks again!

hey lifeboy, to clear it up, when you say rocky on this forum, everyone thinks you are tlakinga bout the aussie rocky, which has a turbo desiel. the u.s. rocky is known as the feroza overseas. except for england, they're called sportraks iirc.
im one state above you and i have two US rockys for sale(together). one run/drives strong, just needs some replacement windows(rocky has been modded!), and a parts truck to go with it. if your interested i could show you pictures/info on the lot.
also, dem ferozas are pretty damn tough. you can do some basic mods such as tighten up your torsion bars for lift, fit 31's, remove your sway bar, possibily weld your front diff, and she'll be good to go! ive surprised alot of people with my feroza, and the transfer case is pretty beefy considering what you can put it through. just dont overtighten the drain plug!(it'll crack ur transfer housing, been there done that).
if you want to chat, feel free to mail me! its been a while since ive talked to somone in the u.s that owned a feroza.
