GQ Control arms
GQ Control arms
Can anyone give us the goss on how to make the control arm bushes last longer than 2 events . We just put std. Nissan new bushes in and they are buggerd after one 2hr night drive. {at the axle}. At the chassie can I make a bush retainer to stop the front bush from sliding up and destorying itself
80 series To travel and GQ to play
what or whos control arms are you using, The reason i ask i had the same problem,i ended up swaping them for the same brand after pleeding with the maker. the problem was that the control arms aren't straight, they have a slight bend in them, but the ones i orig had had a too severe angle in em', the bush was flogging itself out in the middle where the bolt goes through.
just a thought anyway.
cheers Duane

I would not say that the control arms have a 'bend' in them, as the arm is is a straight tube, but they do not run parralel to the chassis so the bushes are at a slight 'angle' to the arm to accomodate this.
here is a quick drawing to help explain how they are...I should have exagerated the angle more but you get the idea
Some control arms dont have this offset and are straight, which will cause the bushes to flogg out.

You will get a little more flex and will take some of the stress out of your arms if they are to straight as mentioned above.
Cheers Mick.
