but not wt, it on came out as a maturi and chances of you find one are about buckleys to none easiest thing to do is get a 1.3 ltr and convert
89 lux 2bl 4inch spring 35's etc still slow as a snail
I was always under the impression that there was a WT LWB made (never a coily though). I've got a scanned copy of an '88 or '89 Sierra catalogue and it has one for a body option (photo too). I can't recall the web site I found the catalogue on, found it ages ago when looking for something else. I know for a fact they were definently sold overseas, seen websites with guys modding them. Despite all this, I have never seen one in the flesh, funny that?

When they converted over to WT in August 88, the LWB was also built for a short time with the same WT diffs. I think some were released as late as 89 but they are very rare. I was once told there was only around 200-300 ever sold in Aus but this is just heresay. After that they went back to farm hack maruti's with WT 1L diffs and 1L engine. As for the LWB NT, quite a few of them in 1.3L format including mine. They were made from sometime in 84 through to 87 I'm pretty sure.

LWB came in NT as a tray back like mine .. or the style side soft top that can have four seats still ... most of these have been turned into style side utes though

To give it its correct name code, the NT 1.3 LWB styleside softop was the SJ413W and they have always been as rare as rocking horse manure! The other NT LWB was the SJ413K (hardtop cabin with flatbed, correctly known as a pick-up, a flatbed is not a ute).
Nev, your information of 200 - 300 probably applies to the SJ413W, there would be even fewer of the WT LWB versions. It may seem strange now to those of us who own one, but the LWB never rang the right bells with Aussie buyers back in the eighties.
After a big-time shunt in '87 forced me to give up motorbikes, I bought a SWB 1.0 litre Sierra but only a couple months later I saw a 1985 LWB 1.3 in my local Zook dealer's yard and fell in love - it was mine an hour later and I still have it.
All the pressing dies etc were taken to India to become the Maruti when the plant in Japan was re-tooled to build the first Vitara. I've managed to get some strange parts from India, such as the plastic extensions that match the rear bumper to the WT flares, which I put on when rebuilding it six years ago. So yes, there was a WT version of the LWB. I have also seen pics of some 4-door versions, again Maruti but never sold in Oz.
And before anyone thinks to ask, mine is still a NT - I put on the factory flares just to confuse people! (And to better cover the 7x15 alloys and Pirelli Scorpions...)
Anyone who thinks removing/erecting the roof of a SWB Zook is a pain has never done that on a LWB, it really is a bugger of a job. Mine still has its original vinyl roof, plus I scored a used Flexiglass canopy for it a few years back and I also have a full-length safari top (no sides, made of shadecloth) that I had made six years ago - fantastic right now in summer.
I've had it 20 years now, and would I sell it? Hell no, I've just put new doors and a new windscreen frame on it! Went berserk with Lanotec, these ones won't rust away so easily and it's still the best camping vehicle I can imagine. Still box-stock too.

i have two lwb sierra's one of them a 1.3ltr 5sp 85 nt which is for sale and the other a lwb is a turbo'd 18ltr 82 nt and i have seen a lwb wt, there was one for sale near my house about a year ago for $3000 wish i had brought it.

Genuine Japanese built WT LWB's were, to the best of my knowledge, only imported into NSW. NSW and NT suzuki's were imported by Ateco, and the rest of Australia was done by Suzuki australia, Based in Melbourne. They often received slightly different product.
I have seen a factory 1.3WT LWB for sate in Wangaratta, and reckon it might have originally been sold in Albury.
DroopyPete's dad also owns an original LWB 1.3 WT, Which I think Pete bought from a wrecker.
In case you are wondering if they are a conversion - The shape of the chassis around the rear spring hangers is a giveaway - on the factory 1.3 WT LWB it is totally unique and quite different to the Maruti.
Apart from being rare, I'm not sure the factory WT is an advantage. The wider spring pad spacing increases the cars roll stiffness, and off road this has the effect of reducing the articulation.
I am a big fan of LWB's- I own 2 - a 1,0 trayback and a 1.3 NT softtop, however, they are far less maneuverable than the SWB. due mostly to all of the front end components being the same as the SWB - No correction of ackerman etc for the longer WB.

dont forget about the Maruti , they were wide tracks built in the 1990's

The diffs are WT width 1.0 litres and a re apparently quite easy to bend, chassis is not the same as the Japanese WT LWB, gearbox is a 4 speed and the engine is a 1 litre but with a 1.3 bolt pattern.
Build quality is atrocious and other than tub and rails, parts interchangeability is very poor. IMHO if you had enough time and skills and a WT donor car, you could build a decent car out of it by swapping all the 1.3 WT stuff over onto the Maruti tub and rails. As a starting point in their own right, I don't think I would bother.
Just my 2c worth.

What are the differences between a 1L diff and a WT diff apart from the ratio, im just curious because i have a WT Maruti and the diffs look the same as my mates WT sierra as far as i know.Gwagensteve wrote:Tim, Not quite.

98 WT LWB Maruti, 1.6efi, rockhoppers, 2" body lift, 2" springs, 32" BFG muddies, jimny Power Steer, front lockrite :-)
