Yup !!

I got busted on the freeway with 36" swampers on the Feroza......it hadn't been engineered at the time, so I was happy he didn't look harder at the car and accepted the 'canary' for the wrong tyre size and the bit where they stuck outside the guards by more than 2"

I got the canary removed when it went through Vic Roads for all the modifications....with standard 30" tyres on it !!

What the deal with mud flaps?

I know heaps of people not running any but I haven't heard of anyone getting picked up for it yet, is it a legal issue or not?

Shhh ;)

TMU? - TOG i thought?

I was also told that my lack of bumpers at the front and rear were not too good as they left the 'sharp' edges of my chassis rails exposed... :?

But then he went on to tell me that my car looked really cool and would i like to sell it to him.*

Seems most get pinged for the size of the tyres or them sticking out past the flares......NOT the swampers lack of speed rating which in effect make 'em illegal ;)

The officer looked at a one of my tyres for seriously a minute and a half before speaking to me and pointing out that there was no speed rating on the tyres.

That's what i was warned about - driving with tyres that have no speed rating. :?

mate got pulled over with a set of 35" boggers,
the coppa thought they were tractor tyres  and was going to issue a canary, luckily my mate had a mag in the cab with an article showing the tyres saying that they were DOT approved. the coppa let him off

no not at all wooders. imo, victorians have it very easy with the cops as far as i can tell.

they won't pull you up unless you give them a very good reason to in the first place (obvious things like broken lights, bad driving...). then whether you get a thorough inspection is a matter of their current mood, how you act, how badly obvious your booty fab is, etc...

keep it looking legal on the outside and you'll be fine. we're not the target of the revenue raising rort.

Dunno Wooders [touch wood]I haven't been caught so far [/touch wood] for running tyres a couple of inches out past the flares (33s). Hell I've even had a long coversation whilst pumping gas with an Officer about how good the Jeep looked, where I went wheelin' etc...geez was I nervous for a while there!

Where as I thought the NSW cops were very strict on wheels inside flares?

I have driven my Zuk around for years on 32's and 33 swampers sprung over etc .. never got hassled for the vehicle ..
But lately as there are more and more seriously modded trucks getting about I am sure that we will come under closer scrutiny .. I have seen serveal "random roadworthy" police blockades in the past 12-18 months than in the previous 5 years .. (Like a booze bus just pull over 6 or 7 cars at a time and go over em) ..
Just 3 or 4 years ago a big vehicle (Patrol or crusier) on 35 BFG's was considered pretty extreme .. now a 35 goodrich or MTR on a vehicle that size is considered marginal for serious work.

In QLD (Don't know about other states) It is illegal to fit crossply tyres to a vehicle which wasn't originally sold with them as an option. So that excludes just about everything built after the '70's

There seems to be a big difference between TOG (TMU?) and regular cop type cops...

The scenerio i was in was that i actually thought it was a speed camera trap - so i slowed down to 80ish as a drove by - which obviously gave the fellow a great chance to have a gander at the car... :?

On the plus side though - there were no comments about the beadlocks

normal cops are the guys that drive around in the normal patrol cars, the TMUs (formerly known TOGs) - Traffic Management Unit are the guys that drive around the blue hwy patrol vehicles, or the quicker persuit cars with the squarish lights on the top.. the normal cops have round lights

you will know if you've been pulled over by a TMU, cause they will jam you anyway they can :?
