for metal piping down under car am i able to go to local muffler shop and use that type of pipe, or would it rust, or would it be to thin.

Rust is oxidisation. For oxidisation to occur the metal must be exposed to oxygen (along with other elements). Alloy is actually best suited as it disipates heat better.. but very exy!
Mild steel will be ok.
Stainless would be better than mild.
What's your budget??
