warn highmount help?

Post by shavedtoy »

i went to use my winch on the weekend and nothing was happening, you can hear the solenoids clicking and i tryed to check it out with my multimetre and they all seem to be fine. any ideas on what may be wrong and a easy fix would be great.

is it comon for a motor to burn out or do they seize up?

can a motor be serviced to get it going?

can it be rebuilt and who can do it ?

how much would a new motor be?

Make sure the motor has a good earth. If need be then use a set of jumper leads to ensure the motor is the fault.
Yes motors do burn out if the are over worked.
I think a 6hp motor is about 500 bucks.

Test Procedure.

Power to F1 make sure motor is earthed.

Bridge F2 and A Terminal.

Motor will spin if everything correct.

Easy first check prior to solenoids.

Mine was doing the same thing. Solenoids clicking but motor not turning. Ended up pulling motor off and everything in there was very badly corroded. Looks like it has been sitting half full of water for quite a while. I'm up for a new motor. There's one on ebay at the moment.

I would say it sounds like your motor is the issue. Just follow Lockee's directions but if it doesn't activate straight away don't keep trying, you'll burn it out, if it's not already, it will probably be ceased from corrosion. You can pull it all apart and clean it up etc, you will still get a decent pull from the motor but not as good as it would have been before.

Pull the motor off and see if you can spin the shaft with your hand, if you can't its cactus. If it's real stiff, pull it out and inspect, might need a clean up.
