BJ74 13BT intercooler and exhaust options

Post by thewayitis »

Hi all, I want to intercool my middy, but have a few questions, whats the easiest way? Does anyone have any pics or tips about to how to do it? I know i dont have enough room for a top mount unless i have a body lift. any help would be awesome. Also i want to have a true 3inch exhaust, has anyone done that? mine goes from 2.5 to 3 inch from the flange at the back of the turbo elbow. Also it doesnt wistle at all even when running 14psi boost Any ideas?

I have the same rig in 24volt and am looking at a water to air intercooler as there isn't much room in the engine bay for the plumbing- and I have a 2" body lift! They appear to be more efficient at crawling speeds where there isn't much airflow. Water to air intercoolers are actually air to water to air and benefit from a higher surface area that is created by the setup.

In short I am very interested to hear any feedback for your question. I reckon we need to have a bible for the Middy's!

Gday
any intercooler will help heaps, problem is space. the water to air would be easiest to fit. Denco sell one, PWR sell them too... The whistle will come if you put a 3 inch dump on it from the turbo outlet....i run a 4 inch on the hdft and it whistles now where it wouldnt before...so it is alot happier now :)

mines a 5 speed. Im going to have to get someone to make a 3inch dump for me. Noone down here touches 3 inch exhausts. The only real space i could see was swaping the shroud for a 2h shroud and putting one infront of the radiator (thanks to the boys that emailed me that idea)
