Ok... may be a dumb question by here it goes...

Is it possible to use a rear diff for the front? Like, if you wanted to do a solid front end on a Vit... could you adapt a rear?

can be done, sam at overkill did a vit rear centre with dana ends for the front .
could use sierra ends but the c/v's are weak as we all know.

it would be cheaper & easier to use a hilux diff .

is this for the x90 ??

Yeah... in the future though. Trying to void the whole Yota thing, trying to keep it pure Zook... thinking about Jimny front ends too...

jimny diffs aren't that much better than sierra. If I were you I'd be looking at the hilux option aswell. I can't think of anything worse than going through all that effort of make a custom front diff housing only to find that its not strong enough for any future plans ( bigger tyres etc), also as you would know, the yota diffs have a better range of gears available.

I understand the desire to keep the car all suzuki -

Unless you went with a Overkill style dana outers/vitara centre, the other option is a vitara centre, sierra knuckles and mostly WT tubes with Trail tough double tough axles.

Inner axles will be stock WT on the passenger side and then a custom 4340 short side to get the width correct.

This should be strong enough to be reliable with as much tyre as you could sensibly run, and pretty much all look suzuki.

A jimny axle is not a good candidate IMHO. They are not really strong enough for the job in a well tyred, locked jimny (let alone a heavier and torquier car) and there are no obvious upgrade parts due to the differences of track, spindle, knuckle etc. Mugginsmoo here in vic has just gone through this with his jimny and decided it was all too hard.

Also, the jimny front end has limited ratio availability so trying to match you vitara rear will become a major headache.

There was a vit converted to live axle here in vic with jimny parts.Whilst the height and width came out good, it wasn't entirely successful and the car did not run for long before being parted out.

Its all possible , Money or fab work

It will probably cost more to fab the one front diff machining -axles treating ect
, than to simply do the yota thing front and rear.
If the engineer spys the difference for the reconstructed front housing he may want all sorts of info on its specs ,
where as with the stock toyota stuff they can get the info off the
vehicles spec sheet .
One more thing to add from the strength point , although the vit rear is a much larger ring pinion then the sierra and by memory larger then the front yota lux by a bit it has a ring and pinion cut for the rear rotation
when place it in the front the Ring pinion run on the back side of the teeth making probably only as strong as the smaller lux front member .

Ive actually been thinking about the yota swap thing lately my self for
sierras ect , I think the lux front s good , if i done one the rear would be where i would spend some time , most probably use the lux rear centre and and 75 series outers and axles (im thinking 60s axles will make it to wide in comparison with the lux front), creating an offset small centred diff for the rear. elevating the tail shaft lineup , yet giving better clearance than the 60 series or MQ rears .

Vitara 4.6 rear and MQ 4.6 front, they are allmost the same width and the offset on the front pumpkin is allmost perfect.

Allso they are sssssuper cheep for a whole diff and parts
