Info on motors/models Etc please 60 series & sahara

Post by DR Frankenstine »

Hi all.
Ask me a question about a nissan and I may know the answer but recently Ive had a change. Ive bought a 60 series to play with. It's a 2H and 5 spd(any suggestions) I dont think they need much more than body lift and 35"s.
I also picked up a 1985 60 series Sahara to get some goodies off then I plan to wreck it. My question is about the Motor in it. It is a diesel/auto. It has had a turbo on it but has been removed. The motor/injection/intake system looks different to my 1984 2H. The compliance plate says motor 2H. Did they come with an auto behind them.
The motor runs really well and the Auto was re-buillt 12 months ago (apparently). It does change really well though with no slippage. Its 4psd overdrive.
What can I expect to get for the Motor/gearbox as a combo or sold individually.
Thanks in advance

i may be wrong but if the intake and injection looks diferent it's probly a 12ht factory turbo direct injection and thats a very good motor. worth about 5k.

if it were me i'd put a new turbo on that motor and use it in my good 60.

My thoughts exactly...if the tappet cover is square-ish its a 12ht, if it is round like your other one, it is still 2h...the 2h did come auto in 84, but no 12ht till 85, the 2h auto pump has alot of different things to a manual...it doesnt have the butterfly throttle like the 2h manual, but is pump controlled with linkages....that might be what you r seeing....either way, there are good things about both trannies, the auto will last forever if you change oil every 2 years or so...no adjustments requied, just a pan off and clean filetr mesh while there. The 5 speed is better in low going down, but the auto is better in low going up...the 5 speed loves to spit out 5th if you tow with it in that gear, the auto will not like 4th towing either, and should be pulled back to 3.
The only thiong that will kill the 60 is rust....dont sleep in it, ot it will roof rust quicker than you can bog it...

From what I understood a 2h never came out with a turbo from factory. Is this right?
This Sahara seems to have the original running gear and the grill has a red turbo badge in it. If it is a factory turbo 2H then does it have the good internals making it worth re-turboeing.

A 2H is a naturally aspirated engine.

The factory turbo variant of this motor is called a 12HT and has indirect injection to boot.

I dont think a 12HT will run at all without a turbo, is the sahara running? or is it just a wreck?

Runnung and drives really well and I mean REALLY WELL. I just need a rear window and get the charging problem sorted and get the thing regoed. It also has no rust just a few body dings

Just had a look at the repair manual, and it seems the 12HT runs a slightly higher compression than the 2H (seems odd to me for a turbo to run higher compression than a NA).

So it probably would run fine without the turbo on it if its a 12HT.

On the passenger side of the block down near the firewall there should be a engine model in about 2" tall writing. 2H or 12HT.

A hj61 is just a 12HT powered 60 series. Came with both round (early) and quad square (post 87) headlights. the Hj61 came out in about 83 or so, when the turbo was released.

i have a 89 cruiser (Quad square lights) and it is definantly a Hj60.
