Post by Eddywelder »

Hello everyone....I own a fj40 shorty cruiser with a soft top and want to have the front doors cut down, window frames removed and trimmed down to just above the door handles then capped off and repainted..If anyone knows someone or a body shop in the western suburbs of sydney who specialises or is familiar with this modification please let me know..Any info regarding this idea is most appreciated thanks...

I dont think you will find anyone that will do it because there is a metal link inside the door that joins the door handle to the latching mechanism so you can open the door. The problem with it is that it pokes up past where you would chop the door off.
I have just cut my doors down and found this out after i had welded the tops on my new short doors. I had to make a different link thing up and it was just a pain in the arse.
Euerka Off Road do fibreglass short doors that will bolt on, they overcome the latch prob by not having an outside handle just an inside one.
There number is 03 97068229
I cant remember how much they are so give em a call
good luck

Just use checker plate, a mate just did some for his 40. Looks good....... he bought the checker plte of the scrap heap at the local metal yard, cut it to size had the top rolled, then made up a frame. Overall the two doors cost him less than $200.00, for both.
