Welding Courses
I recently did a entry level welding course that covered basic arc, mig and oxy. I really enjoyed the course and want to follow it up with some further instruction. I know alot of welders frequent this forum so are there any recomendations of where to go to get some further instruction or qualifacations? I am interested in getting really confident with the stick welder before concentraiting on the mig. I have a 6 month break off uni and will go crazy if I am not learning anything [/b]
That's so true..Struth wrote:Yes, yes and yes.TAFE.
Just pick which type of welding you want to learn and use, get a welder and some steel for practice. because good welding is more about experience gained after the theroy is taught.
Cheers
I recommend building things such buying a cheap box trailer and then re welding the floor in it and fix it all and re sell it for a profit..
Also look into making rear bars, bull bars and sliders and stuff and sell them make some money as well u do it..
Rick.
why don't u go a do a pre-VOC... thats here in QLD if thats where you are or why don't you go into a workshop..... or try doing abit of TA work for some site boys... most likley structual
As for tickets where can i start??? like all things some people with tickets sometimes think their shite don't stink
enjoy the world of welding

Yep tickets mean nothing if they haven't been followed up by years of on the job practice. Sometimes the bloke with no ticket is a better welder than the bloke with 5 tickets. Tickets let you weld important stuff though. As for tickets where can i start??? like all things some people with tickets sometimes think their shite don't stink

I did a course back in 2002 at Swinburne called 'welding techniques' it was an entry level course over almost 2 months 1 night a week i dont remember it being too $$ but we cover from oxy to mig and all the other stuff.... never got to play with tig but i did watch the other class. anyway the whole point to this story is the engineer i am using for my ute build just gave me the OK to do all my own welding! Just book yrself in on a course! The at home practive with an arc master that then get a mig it will then all seem so easy!

Re: Welding Courses
I have just found out about 3 night courses that are on at my local TAFE.Shorti wrote:I recently did a entry level welding course that covered basic arc, mig and oxy. the first 2 link together over 2 nights 6-9pm and covers basic welding and the third can only be done after the other 2 are finished and it goes more indepth with the different styles of welding. the first 2 are $168 each and the third is $118.
Im in Qld by the way

A mate and i looked into it and after talking to the head teacher at the closest tafe that did welding the only way to do it was though an engineering style course that was well over 300 hours and only a small part was welding. they used to do small courses but don't seem to anymorebeebee wrote:I've also looked into this. I'm currently doing the ARC and OXY course at swinburne, there is also a TIG class happening at the same time.
I believe the next MIG course is in FEB next year!
Get in early!
I will say though, as i currently dont have acces to an arc, but do have a mig at work.
practise in between makes all the difference.

bogged these patrticular corses only teach the basic techniques of weld, cutting and thremal heating not so much on the fabrication side of things but is highly dependant on course modules
