Different Noises!

Post by Thompatruck »

Guys i'm worried, my sporty is also making noises as soon as I hit 3000rpm I get a noise, hard to describe a sort of strangled-cat-like-meow, semi rotory, a bit like the start up of a wind up siren (apologies for the description!) Again no visible signs of damage, no power loss and it only happens when I hit 3000rpm, i'm lost, any similar experiences or possible causes most welcome.

And no it aint posessed, there isn't a cat stuff in my wheelarch and I haven't attached a siren somewhere ;o)

Cheers!

Is it a cracked exhaust manifold? Remove the heat shield, and look for cracks. The make strange noises when leaking.

Cheers for the interest guys!

No, it doesn't happen when it's stationary
No, it happens in all gears
Yes, the engine is under load when it makes the noise, usually booting it up hills or hitting 70 mph

Sounds like it could be the engine pinging, try a higher octane fuel if possible and see if it goes away.
