on another note I flushed my power steering fluid the other day and the fluid that came out of it was filthy. But now i've flushed it, its making a moaning noise when you put the steering under load ie not moving. Is this the pump on its way out? and why would flushing the old crap fluid out make it worse?

Sorry to hijack your thread to but it's on the same topic i guess :D :D

You nut....under that nut is the relief valve....it is under suction till the pump stops then gravity takes over....just replaced a steering box on a mates cruiser, and when it was first started, the oil turned to gelato, when stopped, it blew out the reservoir.....like it was running back...normal air escaping taking oil with it. u have to have 2 pairs of hands, filling as you go and stopping when it overflows. let sit for half an hour then do again.
Problem is, when air is in the oil, the pump pumps air into the system...so u need to start stop...let sit fill then start stop etc...
