Hi,

Has anyone dismantled an engel fridge before?

Just after advise on how and what to look out for when dismantling an engel fridge. I would like to dismantle and clean the condensor coils as mine has silver paint on it.

i have replied to your Q in this thread

i have dismantled and repaired a couple of engels, but i dont be profess to be an expert on them. i repair household fridges for a living, that said all fridges work on the same principal, but controls differ a little bit.

Thanks to Madmac for the heads up on how to dismantle the fridge.

In answer to your questions from the other thread:
1) When the fridge dial is set at 5, it does cycles.
2) No idea how long it took to reach the -9.6 celsius reading when dial is set at 5.
3) The evaporator plate (the white ring plate surrounding the internals of the fridge compartment) does have frosting all the way around.
4) Ambient temp of the garage. I did not take note but will measure and feedback tomorrow.
5) Yes, the condensor is clogged up with fluff and crap and has paint all over it (pic below). I believe if this can be cleaned up to its glorious black, I might be able to push the temp lower than -10 celsius I am currently getting from the unit.

Does anyone have a good suggestion how best to remove the paint on the coils? Been told not to use mineral turps or thinner... perhaps baby wipes (that would be a very looooooong day) , soft copper bristle brush??

The following pics are from tonight's effort.

Is it alright for the unit to rest on its sides as per the pic?

This will get a good wash, panel beating and a few coats of paint.

After a few days of hard work with a nylon brush the condensor coils have finally been cleaned and the fridge now clocks a minmum temp of 23.6 celsius on an ambient temp in the low to mid 20's.

Panel beaten, coat of paint, and back panel re-inforced with 2 aluminium strips. I am happy now.
