xj 96 with arb winch bar recovery points

I have a Q, dose anyone know how or were to attach a recovery hook to an xj with arb winch bar i have been looking around the front and havn't come up with anything that looks remotely like an attachment point any help would be great :?:

yeah, pics would be good; not everyone knows how an ARB winch bar connects to an XJ. Got an alloy bar on ours, connects very weakly.

I've personally never worried about recovery (due to the fact that our XJ rarely gets put in 4wd :oops: ), but I would think using the bolt holes that the diff guard bolt to. You may need new bolts (longer) to do this, and I can't think off the top of my head how easy that would be to get to (for a recovery situation).

Also, I've got a standard XJ nudge bar in the shed, it has some vertical drop plates that bolt it to the front of the body work somewhere. Maybe some plates like this could be useful (they are quite thick steel).

I do wonder why a bought winch bar doesn't come with a strong rated recovery point?
Wheeling on completely wicked angles, without even looking stable.

Thanks for replying.
At the moment I have not been able to post any pic's although not through lack of trying. The arb bar has two lugs (or ring that are renforced) on the front, but my understanding is these are for a hi lift jack and not strong enough to use a snatch strap on.
There are a couple of plates that attach the bar two the body with the bolt holes on such an angle, that even if i was to get a hook on them it would be behind the bumper section of the bar and useless.
Good point Highway-Star i to thought there would be more than adiquite places for a recovey hook on a winch bar no matter ho makes it. ill go do some looking to see what i'm doing wrong when trying to add pic's hopefully some pic's will make it much easyer to see what i'm trying to explain.[urlhttp://i203.photobucket.com/albums/aa96/sack76/jeepbullbar.jpg][/url]

Do a search on recovery and ARB eyelets or similar. Most people just use those if they are double plated. Early ARB bars are not always double plated.

Looks like from your picture someone has already used them for recovery as they have red paint on them ;)

yeah we have used them. sorry about only having one not so good pic the jeep isn't mine it belongs to dad and its about the only photo i have up close of the bar, i have a patrol with good chassis mounted recovery points but when we had a good look at the jeep it just seamed laking of a good strong point on the front.
up until now touch wood we realy havn't had a problem but that could been as close as the new time out .
i'm just trying to prevent a possibly bad situation form getting worse by either wrecking his bar or worse ripping it of all together not to mention the damage it could cause to him, me or my beloved patrol.
on my winch bar also arb it has two mounting points for hooks on the bar itself not to mention the two i have on the chassis.
it mite sound a little obsesive about a front point for the jeep but with 31 mtr 3.5 lift front disconets and locked both ends the jeep with a mid wheel base is very capable so when he gets stuck he is really stuck.

my recovery hooks are attached to the bar that bolt onto the frame.

due to the uniframe body, it is usually recommended that any heavy recoverys use a tree-trunk protector or likes to attach snatch ot winch cable to to pull from centre.

Thanks for all the replys sorry i hav'nt got back sooner a few thing to do you all know how it gets some times Franco the pic's are top's thankyou very much it will give us another place to start looking
