Hydraulic and air bump stops

Looking at getting some hydraulic kings bumps or fox air bump in the near future and was just wanting to no peoples thoughts on the differnt brands ,diameters and such ? (need to no what ones to get :D )

As for weight they will be going in the front of a gq lwb turbo petrol with tube bar and highmount , will be used for winch comps and such .

Are these the triple bypass coilovers? Anyone got any idea how much these cost, and how much to fit onto a GQ?

no mate i'am only taking about bump stops not triple bypass shocks or coilovers , they would cost abit i would say maybe 7-10 g for triples fitted maybe more maybe less thats just a guess :D

If your car is limited in travel (ie. under 10inches of travel) the Kings are the way to go with their 2inch bumps.
If not then the rest are all good products. Bypass shocks are not the same as bump stops, they should be only used to fine tune shock travel dampening and rebound. If you setup bypasses to act as a bump they will heat up very quickly as all dampening will be handled through the bypasses rather than the main shim stack.

thanks mate so the kings your talking about only has 2inch of travel ? or the 2inch diameters ones ? witch is the diameter to get ?
also 10inches of travel is that from shock compressed to shock open ?

The 2 inch travel, at a guess would be the one to get. As far as diameter, bigger is always better but you are always going to be limited by space constraints. If you can fit a 2.5inch diameter bumps then they would be the way to go, but the 2inch would still do a good job of it.
The travel relates to actual vertical wheel travel. Try to mount your bump as close to axle as possible otherwise you will be riding on your bumps at normal travel.
No question is bad, its good to share any info/opinions.

off topic sorry bout the hijack too, but....

running dual rate coilovers in the rear without a damper... any problems, i am thinking on coilovers rear with emusions front on a 4 inch lift GQ nissan space cab petrol turbo winch truck.

and also. do you have a recomended spring rate for this application, or will i have to ask around a bit?

I run 14", 2.5" Radflo coilovers all round in my winch truck, as far as spring rates are concerned you idealy want to weigh the vehicle in full race trim and from that you can calculate your spring rates, i also reccommend getting Eibach springs as the other springs on the market i have found don't quite cut it.

Air bumpstops act like a spring so when you land they bounce you back up. Hydraulic absorb the shock so give better control.
I've just ordered King bumpstops for my truck.
93 Nissan Pathfinder / Terrano Turboed VH45, GQ Trans and T-case, coil overs, hydraulic winch and fair bit of other stuff. (Currently a pile of parts in the workshop)

Depends on what psi you run in the air springs, the kings and the fox bumpstops as far as i know are nitrogen charged just like the ones i have.
I run mine at 150 psi and they are nice and progressive and i can't notice if you bounce back up as i run coilovers.

Like anything if the whole setup is designed to work together it will be far better than adding a bit here and there. Unfortunately I can't afford to fit a complete coilover setup so have to do it a piece at a time. So hydraulic bumpstops will work better with standard (all be it twin heavy duty) shocks and springs.
The next step for me will be a bypass shock and then coilovers. Unless a sponsor writes a big check that is!!!!!!!!!! My current major sponsor (my wife) wouldn't be too happy about another $15k going out the door!!!

Isn't as bad as you think, my coilovers owe me approx $1600 a corner with springs, the only cost i can't put a price on is the fabrication time as i do all that work myself, so realistically 4x coilovers owe me around $6400

coil over should cost about $1200 ea with springs and remote canister.if you plan to run coil overs and by pass shocks l would fit the coil overs first and fabricate for both at the same time .when funds permit then add by pass shocks.rohan

Now those are prices I like to here. Even converting to NZ$ it is still pretty affordable. The suppliers in NZ arobviously making a good living.

Before you get excited i would ask the price of the bypass shocks as well. They arent cheap but damn they work well.

This is not to bag bypass shocks but to merely to be the devils advocate.
Bypasses are great for tuning off suspension to suit the changes of terrain when you are at an event, also if you have more than two tubes they give positional variance with the compression stroke of the shock.
But the point is if you are just going to bolt them up and never tune them or adjust them a single good quality coilover with a bumpstop would be up to most abuse that you can throw at it.
This is just a thought.
