Yep, I run the Garrett supplied with the APS t/i kit that was fitted to my 1HZ. It's a twin entry unit that bolts to the matching split pulse manifold they used.adrian wrote:does anyone run a differant turbo onther than factory on a 1HD -FT .

The minor diameter of the front compresser is 4mm larger on a supra. The new hdfte has thesame size wheel up front, but a smaller hdt sized turbine wheel down the back...std hdft has same size as supra turbine wheel, with smaller a/r housing...so in essence, the mod has made the fans supra sized with the smaller a/r exhaust. It is hard to compare before to after, as before was on 5 cylinders, yes i did the mod whilst motor was out and in pieces, it has no noticeable lag and is on boost from 1500 rpm. Makes 5 psi at 1500, and increases to 10 by 1800. I still get a boost spike at 2000-2200 of 14 psi before it reduces to 13 above that. I have a free flow exhaust, boost compensdator set to 14 max and the lcool pump mods only

The 1HD-FT engine in the 80 series is so detuned its not funny.
So after they were released toyota put out a mod on the injector pump, that was recallibrated. There are a couple other mods available for the later ones.
Mine was almost dangerous to drive, some times it had no go at all until you got it up and going.
Now it flies, everything else is standard

There are two mods you can do bepending on your car
1. Flat spot just off idle, but the rest of the time is fine, you need to adjust the off boast fuel . It is located at the back of the pump on the left top area, depending on the year it might just be a blanking plug.
2. Flat spot just off idle and not that flash all the time, then adjust your main fuel screw usually between 1/4 to 3/4 a turn, but make sure you dont get too much smoke.
Mine needed 1/3 turn of the main fuel screw and 1 notch of the off boast
economy is the same, but power is awesome

There are another 2 adjustments that do things...the top locked bolt which is idle fuel, and turning the diaphram to get the best profile of the metering plunger aswell,...It is documented under pump mods on www.lcool.org 80 series technical section.
Adding a electric pump to circulate fuel through the filters b4 being sucked by the pump allows better control of timing, not related to angle of car or level of tank...I am curious, was the egt pre turbo or post??

I agree on the the lift pump but it is finding one that does not push to hard, a mate have installed a 3 psi pump and I will see how that works for him. Have made the mods from the LCOOL site.
