Old Goref has been running rough for the past few weeks he's now at about 260 kkm, had oil and fuel filters changed since- Think it might be a fuel issue
What is happening is sometimes when either warm or cool he is hard to start- don't think it is glow plugs as once started idles ok, if driven for 5 minutes or so and then I decrease acceleration to slow or stop he starts to choke and the idle drops down until it stalls, it is then hard to start, I have to pump the acclerator and turn the idle up to stop it from dropping to a stall. It starts first thing when parked nose downhill but not on the flat. When acclerating to get up to speed on a freeway the engine surges and drops, the turbo is boosting fine and sounds perfect, once at speed it runs smoothly.
There is a dodgy looking servo I got fuel from before it started I have since bought diesel elsewhere and it seems alot better but still not running right. If it's the fuel pump/seals what can i look for? Hoping it's not the injectors.
Injectors are cheap, mr DD could change them over for you for about $80e plus whatever scheckles he charges... pumps on the other hand, they are the expensive (like, kidney and liver expensive) bit.
Have also heard of a problem called 'drain back' something to do with fuel leaking out of the pump back into the fuel tank over night causing very low fuel pressure at start up, bad idling etc.
Maybe run some chemtech diesel power through it, and drain the fuel tank/clean the fuel screen to eliminate the possibility of bad residual fuel as well.
I use a guy out of Queensland for injectors if you need them, uses genuine nozzles etc, very professional service, just under $300 a set exchange, turn around 3-4 days.
Anyway fixed my cruiser. Let me know if you need the info.
i just had a similar prob fixed in my GQ, edspecially the part diin under acceleration,
my prob was water in my fuel system, which in turn destroyed my injection pump, hope yours isnt as bad,
check your fuel filter for any sings of water and dirt,
one thing, your fuel pickup in the tank, does it have a small strainer on it, i know patrols do, not sure about cruisers, but if it does might be blocked,
